Karl Rove is as skillful a political strategist as they come. When he uses a phrase or mentions a name, it means something, either to incite or unite.
With that in mind, here’s a completely unscientific tally of references to some names and phrases Rove used during a speech for cheering Minnesota Republicans on Saturday in Rochester:
President George Bush (by name): 1
John McCain: 1
Hillary Clinton: 1
White wine: 1
Hollywood: 1
Death tax: 2
Columbia University (Barack Obama’s alma mater): 2
9/11: 4
San Francisco: 5
Freedom and/or liberty: 6
Barack Obama: 10

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country
2. The Washington Post is read by people who think they run the
country.
3. The New York Times is read by people who think they should run
the country and who are very good at crossword puzzles.
4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the
country but don’t really understand The New York Times. They do,
however, like their statistics shown in pie charts.
5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn’t mind
running the country — if they could find the time — and if they
didn’t have to leave Southern California to do it.
6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run
the country and did a poor job of it , thank you very much.
7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren’t too sure
who’s running the country and don’t really care as long as they
can get a seat on the train.
8. The New York Post is read by people who don’t care who is
running the country as long as they do something really
scandalous, preferably while intoxicated .
9. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another
country but need the baseball scores.
10. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren’t sure
if there is a country or that anyone is running it; but if so,
they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional
exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feminist
atheist dwarfs who also happen to be illegal aliens from any other
country or galaxy, provided of course, that they are not Republicans.
11. The National Enquirer is read by people trapped in line at the
grocery store.
12. The Minneapolis Star Tribune is is read by people who have recently caught a
fish and need something in which to wrap it.
Don’t these idiots realize that they could sell more papers if they weren’t so blatently liberal? I know a lot of people who refuse to have anything to do with the Red Star Democrat Tribune for this reason.
Pawlenty piously blathers to the assembled GOoPs that “People deserve leaders who are hopeful, optimistic, decent….People want to be part of something exciting, positive, meangingful…” and the MN GOoPs then have their keynote address given by the morally hideous K. Rover.
Typical conservative hypocrisy verging on insanity, say one thing, do precisely the opposite.
And the right-leaning MSM doesn’t even take the slightest note of the repulsive irony in the situation.
And trust me, you really don’t want to know the bookmarks that make up OT’s daily feedbag of rotting garbage, SgtP.
Dare2 is not afraid of Daring2 B-Wrong. I was the first journalist to call Tim Pawlenty “T-Paw”(Jan., 2004). But, as I reported, “T-Paw” was the nickname his staff used for the governor. I received the tip on that from the estimable editor of this blog, Mr. Tice. So sorry, Dare2.
It wasn’t a lefty who coined the term. Maybe it was Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove.
Well I’m sure you won’t let this bit of truth dissuade you from repeating your erroneous claim. It never has before. As long as you can bash “the left” or Democrats it’s all good, right?
I can’t share Dora’s optimism.
It looks like the 2 year rule of this Dem Congress, and its record low approval ratings, may continue beyond 2009.
Sad, but likely true.
I am thinking that parth reads either the sf chronicle or a ny times.
sarge - just one of those little funny emails i get from friends. parth is just jealous that i have friends- i guess when you are the debbie downer type like him/her, it is easier to be envious.
Yeah…well, I tend to ignore anything I get via email. I just saw one that claimed Michael Richards gave some racist diatribe to some judge — pure fiction.
that post was hardly a scientific study-it was a sarcastic read of the type of people who read those newspapers, hence the strib only being good for wrapping fish, when in reality, it makes a fine bird cage floor.
The article by Joe Kaufman in Front Page Magazine should be read by every voter and media putz from Minnesota’s 5th congressional district.
A few highlights:
After being outed for speaking in front of an organization, the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS-Minnesota) – as the group was calling for the murder of Jews and the waging of war against non-Muslims – United States Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) has gone back for a repeat performance. Yet, while Congressman Ellison continues his outrageous conduct, he still gets rewarded with invites to sit on Congressional entities highly inappropriate for someone such as himself. Why?
For well over five years, since at least December of 2002, MAS-Minnesota propagated hatred on its website aimed at Jews and Christians. Up until recently, when the pages containing the offending material were removed, the following quotes could be found on the site:
* “The Holy Prophet (and through him the Muslims) has been reassured that he should not mind the enmity, the evil designs and the machinations of the Jews…”
* “In view of the degenerate moral condition of the Jews and the Christians, the Believers have been warned not to make them their friends and confidants.”
* “If you gain a victory over the men of Jews, kill them.”
* “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say, ‘O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him’”
* “May Allah destroy the Jews, because they used the graves of their prophets as places of worship.”
As well, there were quotes calling for violence in the name of Islam and praising terrorist organizations. They included:
* “A Muslim must always worship Allah and wage jihad until death in order to reach his ultimate goal… Regularly make the intention to go on jihad with the ambition to die as a martyr.”
* “The [Islamic] revolution… has been crystallized in the steadfast, brave, aware Islamic resistance movement ‘Hamas’… Hamas is an embodiment of the Palestinian People’s belief in its Muslim and Arab origins, and a testimony that this people is still alive and will never die and that its jihad will be carried on by pure hands and clean hearts until victory is achieved with the will of Allah.”
Ahh…I see why it hasn’t been brought to anyone’s attention - it’s a complete misrepresentation.
OT, those quotes are from the Koran. The “proof” that Kaufman cites is screenshots that are conveniently positioned as to not show the subject, or the fact that they’re Koran verses.
Despite being advocates of causes I’m sure you’re in support of (like the border patrol guys who shot the unarmed drug dealer) — David Horowitz and his Front Page Mag don’t represent mainstream conservatism. They’re wackos, frankly.
OT the simple fact is that not all muslims are out to kill people — if you look at the bible, you could make all kinds of crazy assumptions about Christians, couldn’t you?
My mother is Lutheran — Martin Luther wrote all kinds of bad things about the Jews. The Lutheran Church in Germany supported the Nazis. But we don’t come out and say “Lutherans hate Jews” because of this. Same goes for Muslims.
I have ZERO TOLERANCE for Islam bashers OT. When something like the public school in Inver Grove Heights comes up, absolutely I’m aginst that — but this article you refer to is thinly-veiled bashing of muslims.
Another thing about FrontPageMag OT — they have an article about how Betty Friedan was a Communist — What’s the point of having something like this?
Because Hillary Clinton said some nice things about her when she died.
In case you didn’t know, she wrote a book called, “The Feminine Mystique” — the message of the book is that it’s not okay for husbands to beat their wives, and that women should pursue careers if that’s what makes them happy. Pretty radical ideas, I know.
She started the National Organization for Women, but was later pushed out by radical marxist lesbian groups (I’m not kidding).
So my question, OT is why should they come out against Betty Freidan? Are they against women working outside the home? Are they in favor of women getting beat up?
There is nothing more comic than the vitriolic muslim-hatin’ American Right acting like they want to continue occupying Iraq (and attack muslim Iran) ‘cuz they care about muslims so darn much and reeeallly want them to have a “better life”…..if they had functioning brains you’d think the resulting cognitive dissonance would render them comatose, ha-ha!
The idiot US marine handing out Christian conversion “coins” in Fallujah last week displays the pinhead wingnut mindset quite well.
Parthian- why can a person NOT give a christian conversion coin? Is it because he was the military that you despise or another reason? Isn’t the practice of religion a right?
So, if these are from the koran and a person follows the letter of the koran- would they not believe the terms of it?
You’re not a Koran scholar, OT, and if you want to learn about Islam and the Koran go read an actual book by an actual informed person who has spent his life studying it and not some lamebrained wingnut website post(s).
The pinhead marine was sought out and disciplined by his superiors, if I remember right. He may even have been cashiered for his stupidity.
If you think that occupied Iraq is the right place for a member of the occupying US military forces to be playing Christianist conversion games with sullen muslims, then your judgement is as terrible as the idiot marine. The US marine has no “right” to play religious conversion games in Iraq, whatever an individual Iraqi’s “rights” might be.
I’ll bet the (now disciplined) marine is singing a different tune today.
Despite his usual unnecessary name calling again obscuring his point, As far as the Marine goes, parthinian is correct this time, but not necesarily for the reason he thinks.
A G.I. performing official duties has no right to proselytize. Had he been off duty, things might be different, although I would still question his decision to do this in a muslin country when he was there as a reperesentative of the U.S. military.
So the problem you had WAS that he is a marine and not that he was just handing out coins? I agree that a marine should not be doing that. I am sure you think he should be beheaded now too.
You are so funny that you cannot just answer a simple question without attempting to show your limited intelligence. don’t worry- we know how smart you are, I believe my boy hit your level around the second grade.
So many things for Lt. Pinhead Lester to be outraged and defensive about, our fab officer corps, the beloved Repub party, proper spelling, it must all be so exhausting…..so many fronts to hold down! No rest for the weary!
Glad you’ve come around to my way of thinking on the muslim-helpin’ marine, OT….as to whatever else you are trying to say, I guess it got lost in “translation”.
But if you mean that, say, the Blackwater Christianist Boys or some other civilian contractors should be allowed to “help” convert those darn muslims in Iraq during their free time, well, that’s a stupid idea, too–and our fine occupation forces should disallow that as well.
“Helping” muslims learn about the splendors of Blessed Christianity is not the job of the Empire’s minions—they have enough to do in Iraq without singing the praises of infidel Christianity, wouldn’t you say?
Parthian, you distratect OT with your argument - now he won’t answer the questions I had for him (like what’s so bad about Betty Friedan?)
OT, Arabs in general are sensitive about being prosthetiz….whatever…people trying to convert them. They know history too well — 1000 years ago, a bunch of Europeans came in and laid waste to their entire region — all in the name of Christianity. We don’t want our soldiers giving the impression that’s the reason we’re there.
Muslims expect us in the West to bend over forwards for their religion, such as when they demanded to have Muslim foot washing stations installed in public buildings at taxpayers expense, while a Christian can be severely punished in Muslim countries for simply having possesion of a Bible. It’s the religion of “tolerance”, as well as the religion of “peace” I guess.
sory sarge, i forgot the muslims were stuck in a time period of 1000 years ago. lets not confuse them or have a possibly offensive cartoon or heads will fly (with them though, it isnt simply a figure of speech).
The moonbats are now forming citizen’s arrest teams.
The Democratic Underground laid out the steps to an effective citizens arrest, via Power Line Forum:
1. Don’t announce that you’re coming, because the war criminal will escape.
2. Pick your war criminal. Here are their names, where to find them, and some of the charges against them.
Note: War Criminals travel frequently. Watch http://convictbushcheney.org for notice of when they’ll be appearing publicly near you. Below are their home locations.
3. Form a team. We need teams in California, Texas, New York, and Washington, D.C., among other places. Your mission is to locate a war criminal from the list above in a public place, detain them, handcuff them, phone the police, read the criminal their rights and the charges against them, ask them if they have anything to say in response, videotape the arrest and post it online. Your team should include one or more people who can produce an excellent video and be extremely fast in editing and posting it online. Your team should include people capable of physically detaining your war criminal. Your team should ideally include a lawyer. And, of course, people who can read the charges and question the suspect. Everyone on your team should be able to keep a secret while you’re planning your arrest.
OT says:
This sounds like a great way to get shot or beaten up. I feel sorry for any citizen who thinks they can come out of the shadows and handcuff me as I will beat them even more senseless or worse.
Just when you think the far left cannot get any more crazy, they surprise me again. I guess with the rnc in saint paul, i will be even more amazed.
D2, your head is so far up your @ss when it comes to Islam, I’m not even going to respond to your post.
OT, do Christians who bomb abortion clinics speak for you?
Cuz they sure don’t speak for me, and I’m a Christian. It’s the same thing with Islam. He11 I work with Muslims who’d rather have a beer with a Jew than to hurt him. You guys take one snippet of what you hear in the news and apply it to all muslims. That’s called prejudice.
but yet you appear to b prejudiced against extremely religous people, hmmmm.
actually no one group speaks for me.
you fail to differntiate when we post about islamic extremists but have no problem identifying christian extremists- that is odd. i do not think every muslim is an extremist, therefore nullifying your statement. good night.
