Editor’s Note: Star Tribune reporters will be blogging today from the McCain-Palin rally in Blaine and a counter event held by the Obama campaign in downtown Minneapolis. The posts begin here with the most recent:
Chauncey Dunn of Minneapolis and Vidula Kale of St. Paul, used their lunch breaks to come to the Obama rally at Peavey Plaza in support of “change.”
“I want to show my support to galvanzize people to action,” Dunn said, “And remove the hopelessness that people feel.”
Dunn, who was recently laid off from his job at an import/export company, shared the feelings of many people in attendance: the economy needs to be restored. “It’s affecting everyone I know,” he said. Last year, Dunn said his groceries cost him $100. This year, those same groceries cost $160 to $170.
A middle-aged woman showed her support for Barack along with her Golden Retriever, and donned a T-shirt that read “I’m a hockey mom, but I ain’t no Pit Bull.”
Mayor Rybak asked those in the crowd to do five things before the election.
1. Sign up to vote
2. Send a text message to No. 62262, which spells “Obama.” Type MN in the message to get on Obama’s text message system, and convince 5 others to do the same, Rybak asked.
3. Knock on doors in your neighborhood and encourage people to vote for Obama.
4. Host a debate-watching party next Friday and invite uncommitted people to attend.
5. Take Election Day off. “This will be the largest get out and vote operation in Minnesota,” Rybak said.
To close the rally out, Rybak invited St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Minneapolis City Council members to join him onstage where they high-fived one another. The crowd responded with cheers, chanting “Yes we can!”

McCain and Palin, both delivering 15-minute remarks, launched slashing attacks against Obama; McCain concentrated on his solutions for the nation’s faltering economy, while Palin concentrated on the things she’ll undertake as vice president.
Unlike ealier appearances this week, when enthusiasm for Palin overshadowed McCain, both were repeatedly showered with full-throated roars.
“Our opponent points the finger of blame, but has he ever lifted a finger to help?” Palin asked.
“NO!!!!” the crowd responded.
She said Obama is practicing “the worst of politics, politics as usual.”
As vice president, she said, she will concentrate her efforts on government reform, energy independence and help for children with special needs, the latter a particular personal priority because her 4-month old son suffers from Down syndrome.
Families and children “with special needs will have a friend in the White House,” she said.
When she talked about the need to diversify the nation’s energy supply, she was greeted by the “Drill Baby Drill” chant that had rocked the Republican convention.
“Drill, Baby Drill, yes,” she replied.
Pallin ventured into new policy territory, condemning Iran’s attempt to develop nuclear weapons. “Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons - period,” Palin said. Should it be able to do so, it would cause “a second Holocaust,” she said.
Palin and McCain both complemented each other as mavericks, with Palin getting some of her loudest cheers when she said “we need to take the maverick in the Senate and put him in the White House.”
McCain repeated some of his formal remarks on the economy, first released this morning in Green Bay. If he is elected, he said, “the forces that brought down our economy will be out of business,” he said. “Senator Obama just doesn’t get it … Americans have had enough of business as usual. The days of Me First and country second will end on Nov. 4 if you vote for Gov. Palin and me.”
He expanded his critique of Washington D.C’s culture to include the financial markets. “Washington and Wall Street - change is coming,” he said. Friends, we need reform in Washington and Wall Street. Times are tough.”
McCain said he tried, and failed, two yeas ago to legislate reforms of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. “Congress did nothing, the administration did nothing, Sen. Obama did nothing” - other than, he said, than “to take their money.”
The financial crisis, he said, had its roots in “the Washington culture of lobbying and influence peddling,” while Obama “was gaming the system. That‘s not country first. It’s Obama first.”

Oh brother, I’ll bet McCain would like to take this back:
“Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
As he tries to backtrack his 25 year support of deregulation of the banking industry this shows up in an article he wrote for the current (Sept./Oct.)issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries.
He’s actually advocating deregulating the health insurance industry because it worked so well for the financial industry.
Ouch!
Uh-oh. From Alaska Daily News:
When did the McCain campaign take over the governor’s office?
Gov. Sarah Palin has surrendered important gubernatorial duties to the Republican presidential campaign. McCain staff are handling public and press questions about actions she has taken as governor. The governor who said, “Hold me accountable,” is hiding behind the hired guns of the McCain campaign to avoid accountability. …
…Alaskans have to sit back and listen to John McCain’s campaign operatives handling inquiries about what Alaska’s governor did while governing Alaska. Residents of any state would be offended to see their governor cede such a fundamental, day-to-day governmental responsibility to a partisan politician from another state. It’s especially offensive to Alaskans.
O’Callaghan said Todd Palin objects to the subpoena because the Legislature’s investigation “has been subjected to complete partisanship.” That’s the kind of dizzying spin that Washington has perfected. It is the McCain-Palin campaign that has worked overtime to politicize the entire matter in a transparent attempt to justify the stonewalling. …
BOTTOM LINE: Official state business — like Troopergate — should be handled by the governor of the state, not by McCain presidential campaign operatives.
Holy crap.
Kopp hiring proved Palin’s fundamentalist street cred
Subsequent events suggest that the price of support for McCain by the fundamentalist Christian leadership would be a vice presidential candidate of their liking. Gov. Palin was a logical choice for Franklin Graham, whose ties to Alaska include a palatial, by Bush Alaska standards, second home in Port Alsworth: a community that has often served as a retreat for Christian fundamentalist leaders.
But Gov. Palin did not promote a socially conservative agenda during her first two years as governor and some Alaska right-wing commentators called her an economic liberal. Send us a sign, national fundamentalist Christian leaders seemingly said, that proves your credentials. In firing Monegan and hiring Kopp, Palin would have gained a controversial measure of revenge in a family dispute and established her standing as a Christian conservative politician. …
Elite fundamentalists believe, according to Sharlett, not only in religious determinism but that they are personally chosen by God to be in positions of power. By claiming divine legitimacy of their political power, elite fundamentalists relegate the opposition to being the devil’s tool. They are making a frighteningly close return to the pre-enlightenment concept of rule by divine right, which our founding fathers rejected as anathema to democracy and established, instead, the separation of church and state lest decisions be made on the basis of good versus evil rather than wise versus unwise.
Whether or not Sarah Palin pandered to the Christian fundamentalist right on the back of a good man’s career and believes she was chosen by God only she can say. Likewise, only John McCain can say whether he sold his political soul and selected the least prepared vice presidential candidate in United States history for the sake of political gain. The electorate deserves some answers.

See Dora, even your doing it.
Rather than root for your saviour, you post nothing but attacks…complete with “smoke filled room” drama.
Let see, I;m running for VP,, I guess I’ll refuse the national party help…. It’s not like I’m a Senator and can put off works, I actually have a state to run vs just “organize” And that Kopp article is pure speculation about how McCain choose Palin. Not your usual misguided but factually defendable work there Dora.
Perhaps it’s because your comment is garbage DTSI-bot.
Raines is not and never has been an Obama campaign adviser. McCain’s campaign is run by Fannie/Freddie lobbyists and his economic adviser wrote the de-regulation laws.
The Bush administration pushed the home “ownership society” and his policies allowed banks to come up with all kinds of “creative” financial schemes.
What a ignorant rube you are.
I posted what the Alaska Daily News is publishing and what McCain said. Too bad you don’t like Les.
Dora,
This might clear things up for you:
*********************************
Did Obama’s adviser, Franklin Raines start Wall Streets downfall by running Fannie Mae in the gound as CEO?
Fannie Mae’s former CEO and now Obama adviser, Franklin Raines made over $100 Million cooking the books of this Government oversight corporation while spending lavishly on democrat politicians as a lobbyist to get the democrat congress to change the rules that helped him make exorbitant wind-fall profits for himself.
It’s well known that the fall of Freddie and Fannie were the start of Wall Streets collapse.
How responsible was Obama’s adviser Franklin Raines, and should Obama fire him, or wait until he’s arrested?
h**p://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080918135628AAnBwan
You’re relying on Yahoo answers??? Good grief!!! You’re getting more ignorant by the day (maybe even the hour).
Get it through your thick head DTSI-bot, Raines is not now and never has been an Obama campaign adviser. Therefore, he can’t “fire him” since he never hired him in the first place.
From WaPO: all rely on the same single conversation, between Raines and a Washington Post business reporter, Anita Huslin, who wrote a profile of the discredited Fannie Mae boss that appeared July 16. The profile reported that Raines, who retired from Fannie Mae four years ago, had “taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.”
Since this has now become a campaign issue, I asked Huslin to provide the exact circumstances of that passage. She said that she was chatting with Raines during the photo shoot, and asked “if he was engaged at all with the Democrats’ quest for the White House. He said that he had gotten a couple of calls from the Obama campaign. I asked him about what, and he said, ‘Oh, general housing, economy issues.’ (’Not mortgage/foreclosure meltdown or Fannie-specific?’ I asked, and he said ‘no.’)”
The McCain campaign is clearly exaggerating wildly in attempting to depict Raines as a close adviser to Obama on “housing and mortgage policy.”
Dora,
Barack Hussein Obama has many disturbing close personal associations including an anti-American racist pastor and an unrepentant terrorist, so why would corrupt multi-millionare liberal democrat Franklin Raines’s association with Obama surprise anyone.
and it surprises no one that DTSI-bot repeats false information, innuendo, and smears even when everything you spew is refuted by multiple sources. You are a disgrace.
Dora says:
“You are a disgrace.”
Why is it a disgrace to tell the truth Dora? Isn’t Bill Ayers a non-repententant terrorist? Isn’t Reverend Jeramiah “God Damn America” Wright an anti-American racist? Isn’t it true that liberal democrat multi-millionaire Franklin Raines drove Fanny Mae into the ground by cooking the books and getting extremely wealthy in the process? Shouldn’t he be put in jail and have to pay the money back?
The facts show that Obama has several very disturbing personal associations, and you can’t disprove this.
God help us if Obama bin Biden gets elected.
From today’s anti-Strib:
**************************************
Even Barack Obama, who opposed the Iraq troop surge, has finally acknowledged its success. But some of his fellow Democrats in Congress apparently remain unconvinced. Earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin teamed up to block a vote on a bipartisan resolution “recognizing the strategic success of the troop surge in Iraq” and thanking our men and women in uniform for their efforts.
**********************************
These liberal democrat anti-American clowns need to be voted out!
You are a disgrace because Ayers has no more of a personal association to Obama than Raines but you peddle your bullsh1t without any regard for the truth. The facts show the exact opposite of what you claim.
Wright is no more an anti-American racist that Hagee or Parsley or Palin’s preacher.
You’ve shown your extreme ignorance over and over again. You really are an utter fool and I no longer can stomach your idiocy.
Wrong again Dora,
Terrorist Bill Ayers and Anti-American racist Wright and have been close personal friends of Obama, and even though you can’t stomach it, it’s true.
By the way. Obama’s liberal “church” awarded racist Nation of Islam leader Louis “Hitler was a very good man” Farakkhan a lifetime achievement award. What’s up with that?
Liberal democrat crook Franklin Raines is another one of Barack Hussein Obama’s buddies, but you don’t want that to be divulged either.
Goodnight Dora!

A convincing amount of evidence suggests the “hacker” (perhaps a status he doens’t deserve) is David Kernell, son of Tennessee representative Mike Kernell.
It is almost funny…a 20-year-old son of a TN Democratic state representative, and self described Obama supporter, illegally hacks into Sarah Palin’s email account looking for dirt and instead finds nothing but a legal mess in his future and the distinct possibility of loosing his virginity to some guy named Tiny if he goes to prison.

Despite Dora’s valiant efforts, and as the economy literally melts down before our eyes, BQ has serial posts up about a rally with senile nitwit McCain and his pinhead fundamentalist loon?
Wasn’t there a claim that the posts would return to seriousness as we approached the election? Instead we get live blogging of an utterly meaningless rally in Bachmannistan (of all comic places), telling us pinhead Minnesotans held up “We ‘heart’ Trig” signs.
Well, our sorry country is now falling into the abyss of collapse that serious people have been predicting for over a year—-bailouts of over $1.8 trillion, the dollar collapsing, oil exploding upwards.
This is it, BushAmerican Boobs.
And all we get from lamebrain deregulator McCain and the party and movement that authored the disaster is a tasty new fascistic slogan, “Country First!”
And “We ‘heart’ Trig”. Jeebus. Leave the poor kid out of the exploitation game for once.
“So much for DTSI sources being “bogus””
Thanks for proving Dora wrong once again Les!
Partisan says:
“and as the economy literally melts down before our eyes”
This started to happen right after democrats got control of BOTH Houses of Congress. If we don’t vote these liberal bums out we’re heading for serious problems Partisan.
Great Les, except nobody commented on his post about the email hacking.
“This started to happen right after democrats got control of BOTH Houses of Congress.”
Actually, when it started was about 1/3 of the way through Greenspan’s reign at the Fed……he was just successful at rolling the problem into new problems until it finally had no where to go recently. Feel free to blame both political parties and multiple White House administrations for allowing that clown to run our Fed like a six flags amusement park ride.
parthian: “Well, our sorry country is now falling into the abyss of collapse that serious people have been predicting for over a year.”
People have been “predicting” that for much longer than a year. Many have been predicting it for over a decade. Its not all that hard to predict the decline of anything as long as you stick with your story for long enough….
So, the newest Republican talking point is that this meltdown is due to minority home ownership. Well, lookie here at who was a major booster– McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis when he was President of the Homeownership Alliance. In the 2004 Alliance annual report he said: “We have an opportunity in the next decade to increase minority homeownership and significantly reduce the minority homeownership gap. The future of the housing market rests heavily on the economic success of minorities. Homeownership is likely to grow faster among minority Americans in the next decade if all the stakeholders in the housing industry work together to make it happen. The Homeownership Alliance is working toward this goal.”
And this is also the guy that got $2 mil for lobbying for Freddie/Fannie as reported in today’s NYT.
Now the Republican Noise Machine knows who to blame. McCain’s campaign manager! ROFLMAO
I keep getting blocked. What’s up D.J.
D2SI - I had a post that didn’t make it either. The Star libs must be mad since they know they will continue to lose credibility now that their Obama bias has been exposed.
Here is a story that the MSM would never report because it is the truth:
you guys are paranoid. You think only your posts go into the ether? I’ve had several that I had to rewrite more than once before they posted.
“The Bush administration pushed the home “ownership society””
Again, you are completely ignorant as to what the term “ownership” society means. The ownership of a home is but a small piece of the concept. The main function of the term OWNERSHIP society is giving individuals more control of their lives. More choices and less interference from the government. That, in some ways MAY mean more home ownership, but that is not even important.
If you truly have your head in the sand and believe this is a Bush Administration problem, how do you explain this?
In the above article Peter Wallinson is quoted as stating:
‘’From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'’ said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ‘’If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.'’
Now, we will let Peter Wallison explain the root cause of the problem:
Whatsa matter Dora, feling guilty? Who said anyone said anything about DTSI’s info on the demon demo hacker?
And you better get of the floor and get your A back.. You should be ashamed of yourself for implying all this bad paper came soley from minorities. You got a source for your unsuported claim that the republicans are blaming minorities in particular, or are you just spouting another loony leftie talking point?
The real scandal here is you beleiving Davis came up with “minority home ownership” all by himself.
Here’s a couple of facts you are sure to ignore:
The first head of Mr. Obama’s vice-presidential search committee, Jim Johnson, a former chairman of Fannie Mae, was the one who announced Fannie’s
original affordable-housing program -
-in 1991 — just as Congress was taking up the first GSE regulatory legislation.
In 2005, the Senate Banking Committee,
-then under Republican control,-
adopted a strong reform bill, introduced by Republican Sens. Elizabeth Dole, John Sununu and Chuck Hagel, and supported by then chairman Richard Shelby. The bill prohibited the GSEs from holding portfolios, and gave their regulator prudential authority (such as setting capital requirements) roughly equivalent to a bank regulator. In light of the current financial crisis, this bill was probably the most important piece of financial regulation before Congress in 2005 and 2006.
-All the Republicans on the Committee supported the bill, and all the Democrats voted against it.-
Mr. McCain endorsed the legislation in a speech on the Senate floor.-
Mr. Obama, like all other Democrats, remained silent.
Now the Democrats are blaming the financial crisis on “deregulation.” This is a canard. There has indeed been deregulation in our economy — in long-distance telephone rates, airline fares, securities brokerage and trucking, to name just a few — and this has produced much innovation and lower consumer prices. But the primary “deregulation” in the financial world in the last 30 years permitted banks to diversify their risks geographically and across different products, which is one of the things that has kept banks relatively stable in this storm.
Here’s your principled Republicans. Andrew Sullivan posted this from a Republican website and called it “cynicism of epic proportions”. I’d call it irresponsible, shameless, and morally disgusting:
“God Himself couldn’t have given rank-and-file Republicans a better opportunity to create political space between themselves and the Administration. That’s why I want to see 40 Republican No votes in the Senate, and 150+ in the House. If a bailout is to pass, let it be with Democratic votes. Let this be the political establishment (Bush Republicans in the White House + Democrats in Congress) saddling the taxpayers with hundreds of billions in debt (more than the Iraq War, conjured up in a single weekend, and enabled by Pelosi, btw), while principled Republicans say “No” and go to the country with a stinging indictment of the majority in Congress.
This creates pressure on the “change” message. If this issue is made controversial, and Obama is not the first to make it an issue, how exactly is a Washington deal backed by Bush’s Treasury Secretary “change?”
But for this to be actionable, it has to be controversial. So this can’t be a few lonely voices like Coburn and DeMint. It needs to be the bulk of the Republican conference. In an ideal world, McCain opposes this because of all the Democratic add-ons and shows up to vote Nay while Obama punts. . . .
A bailout may be inevitable, but so to can be the political benefit for Congressional Republicans if played correctly.”
This is how Republican’s think? Forget about what’s in the best interests of the country in getting out of this gigantic mess but instead figure out how to maximize political benefit. There are no words to describe the amount of contempt that should be heaped upon anybody who thinks like this.
“You should be ashamed of yourself for implying all this bad paper came soley from minorities. You got a source for your unsuported claim that the republicans are blaming minorities in particular, or are you just spouting another loony leftie talking point?”
You’ve turned into a real @ss Les. DTSI-bot was already claiming that and Neil Cavuto said the same thing on his show. Plus, since you read the comments on the strib stories, you’ve probably seen it there as I have.
And try reading the 2004 press release that’s still on the WH website.
Fact Sheet: America’s Ownership Society: Expanding Opportunities
Expanding Homeownership. The President believes that homeownership is the cornerstone of America’s vibrant communities and benefits individual families by building stability and long-term financial security. In June 2002, President Bush issued America’s Homeownership Challenge to the real estate and mortgage finance industries to encourage them to join the effort to close the gap that exists between the homeownership rates of minorities and non-minorities. The President also announced the goal of increasing the number of minority homeowners by at least 5.5 million families before the end of the decade. Under his leadership, the overall U.S. homeownership rate in the second quarter of 2004 was at an all time high of 69.2 percent. Minority homeownership set a new record of 51 percent in the second quarter, up 0.2 percentage point from the first quarter and up 2.1 percentage points from a year ago. President Bush’s initiative to dismantle the barriers to homeownership includes:
American Dream Downpayment Initiative, which provides down payment assistance to approximately 40,000 low-income families;
Affordable Housing. The President has proposed the Single-Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit, which would increase the supply of affordable homes;
Helping Families Help Themselves. The President has proposed increasing support for the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunities Program; and
Simplifying Homebuying and Increasing Education. The President and HUD want to empower homebuyers by simplifying the home buying process so consumers can better understand and benefit from cost savings. The President also wants to expand financial education efforts so that families can understand what they need to do to become homeowners.
And in his very first State of the Union address Bush called for “broader home ownership, especially among minorities”.
Yes Democrats supported this but it was a Republican initiative that they are now trying to run away from and blame solely on Democrats.
The Bush administration policies allowed for predatory lending practices. And they were not interested in any increased regulations as a safeguard.
As Repub. Rep. Oxley pointed out in a Bloomberg interview: Republican Mike Oxley, the former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee noted that the House passed a bill in 2005 that could well have prevented the current crisis by issuing stronger regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: “All the handwringing and bedwetting is going on without remembering how the House stepped up on this,” he says. “What did we get from the White House? We got a one-finger salute.” […]
“We missed a golden opportunity that would have avoided a lot of the problems we’re facing now, if we hadn’t had such a firm ideological position at the White House and the Treasury and the Fed,” Mr Oxley says.
“Who said anyone said anything about DTSI’s info on the demon demo hacker?”
Oh I don’t know, maybe since your post said this:
So much for DTSI sources being “bogus”

Silly me that I would think since you linked to the hacker story you were referring to his post on the hacker.
You actually want to defend his use of Yahoo Answers as a legitimate source?
For the record, Who wrote that piece Sullivan posted, and whose parenthetical comments are included in that statement? So far, all I see is an anonymous bloggers comments. It’s right up there with that ridiculous anti McCain powerpoint presentation that troll posted here.
Having said that, I note it’s an exact copy of Democratic stragey taken in 91 when, in the spirit of cooperation, G.H.W. Bush supported the dems tax increase for the good of the country, and then the dems used that action against him in Clinton’s campaign. Remember the “no new taxes” ads Dora?
So save your fake moral outrage for something other than politics as usual.
BTW,, how was it Obama won his first election,, oh yeah,,, he had the favored candidate thrown out of the election on a technicality…, and a questionable charge at that. Great sense of fair play, that one has….There are no words to describe the amount of contempt that should be heaped upon anybody who thinks like this.
Yup.. Silly you..
As far as Yahoo answer goes, it depends upon what is being supported. Sometimes folks need a reminder that two plus two does in fact equal four. But, you have a point concerning political stories.
But the fact still remains I didnt say you questioned his source on the emial story, now did I?
Geez, that sounds just like one of your defenses….
Les, the current wingnut talking point is definitely that minority homeownership policies caused the crisis. It’s not Dora’s fault if you haven’t seen their arguments. But they may have to stop the claim after the revelation that McCain Team Leader Davis was also a Fannie minority homeownership lobbyist for years—too funny, as always.
And since Repubs controlled the Congress (and thus the committees) and all the Committee Repubs voted for the 2005 GSE regulation bill, how come it was never voted onto the senate floor? And how did it fail to pass in a 55-45 Repub senate? Answer: Repubs voted against the bill as well.
The repeal of the Glass-Steagal Act in 1999 allowed banks and insurance companies to offer any financial products they wanted, just like the unregulated investment banks. This was a return to the golden “conservative” days of the 1920s where giant banks sold dubious “securities” to their customers, ultimately crashing the financial system and causing the Great Depression, just as this current lack of financial regulation has caused the upcoming Conservative Depression of 2008.
And of course the Bushco SEC approved EVERY new risky derivative “security” created by the (now unregulated) market, the very dubious securities which Bushco is now insisting must be bought by taxpayers in order to save the system. The GSEs (Fannie And Freddie) are really a sideshow here—we’re only talking about them because that’s the only angle that Repubs can use to blame the Dems for the catastrophe.
And as we just found out this week, in 2004 Bush’s SEC allowed ALL the major investment banks an exemption from the capital/reserve ratios they has historically operated under, allowing them to undertake the massive leverage which has now destroyed them and required the bailout.
So there really is no doubt that relaxation (by conservatives) of long existing financial regulations from the 1930s caused this crisis, and that the conservative Bushco agencies didn’t even bother to exercise what regulatory power they did possess over these Wall Street criminals.
But it’s not a surprise to me that you (and mark) are desperately looking to every right wing garbage trough to find wingnuts telling you that your beloved conservative movement and its deregulating mania had NOTHING whatever to do with anything—that’s the way intellectually dishonest people who don’t want to know the truth operate.
“Plus, since you read the comments on the strib stories, you’ve probably seen it there as I have.”
Are you saying the strib comments have a box checked somewhere stating the political affiliation of the commenter. Get off it Dora. You further bury yourself by defending your racist comment by stating DTSI’s comments are the basis for your observation. I wont even go into discussing what a talking head represents.
Now you represent a stated effort to help people, including minorities, by republicans as your defense to your comment that “Republicans blame bail out on Minorties” Pure B.S. on your part, not to mention reveals your racist bias.
The funniest part about your postition is the statement republicans are blaming democrats. I see it just the opposite. republicans (and some democrats)are working on the issue while loonies like you and that idiot Franks are busy trying to place blame, rather than solve the problem.
Show me one reference where a member of the Bush administration or McCain’s campaign have stated “It’s the Democrat’s fault”
Another unsupported biggoted claim from the partial brain.
And Dora, as for your expose of the Repubs sole goal of using this financial catastrophe for (their) purely political benefit, remember:
“Country First! USA! USA!”
Disgusting as usual. Exploitation with the rancid stench of fascist nationalism thrown in. What a party.
Wait,, I got it.
Partial brain and Dora cant see the difference between “bad mortgage”, “low income” and “minority”. Sad…
Do you really beleive all the bad paper belongs to minorites? Really?

Really Les, only contempt for challenging candidates eligibility? Then you’d better include McCain in that contempt.
McCain challenged Evan Mecham’s signatures in his 1992 election. And a July 20, 1998, Roll Call article (accessed through the Nexis news database) reported, “McCain will run unopposed in his Sept. 8 primary following the capitulation of his lone GOP opponent, Phoenix businessman Bert Tollefson,” … “McCain’s campaign checked Tollefson’s signatures and found 1,453 that came from Democrats, members of other parties or people who were not registered to vote.”
Challenging petition signatures is common for candidates. Another manufactured scandal you are only too happy to participate in. You have become as pathetic as DTSI-bot.
“Get off it Dora. You further bury yourself by defending your racist comment by stating DTSI’s comments are the basis for your observation. I wont even go into discussing what a talking head represents.”
Did I accuse them of being racist comments? Why no I didn’t! I pointed out that Davis and Bush were up to their eyeballs in supporting minority ownership.
So why are you now accusing me of racism? Oh, that’s right, you need a strawman to divert attention from the fact that it was a cornerstone of Bush policies.
You wanted to know what Republicans are saying that. I gave you two. And unless you’re really stupid I think it’s pretty clear who many of the strib commenters are supporting. Plus, I’m sure if you googled it you’d see it all over the rw blogs.
You’re sinking in your own irrelevance Les.
But not as pathetic as you and partial brain.
You cant even support your own post. Sullivan got it from “a blog”????
Your source may as well be Yahoo answers, then, that would be better than you’ve done so far on this.
I’m still waiting for the references to the adminstration or McCain campaign stating “minorites” are responsible for the bail out. Cant find any, can you.
So you defend Obama’s “politics as usual” methods.. So much for change, and so much for your fake outrage.
“Do you really beleive all the bad paper belongs to minorites? Really? ”
Of course not. And here Les is trying to use the tried and tried Republican tactic of blaming pointing out what the Republicans have said as being the ones to blame for what the Republicans have said.
That’s what people like DTSI-bot and Neil Cavuto and anybody who has posted the same thing want you to believe Les. Direct your outrage to them, not to me for pointing out what they’ve said.
You really must be panicking to throw out such DTSI-bot level crap.
*barf*
Why don’t you do some research for a change Les.
The guy who wrote the post is Patrick Ruffini. This is what he says about himself.
Ruffini currently advises Republican candidates and organizations on mastering new media, with a disciplined focus on Web site, e-mail, and blog strategies shaped by years of experience in the field.
From 2005 to 2007, Ruffini served as eCampaign Director at the Republican National Committee, overseeing the Party’s online strategy for the 2006 election cycle.
In the 2004 election cycle, Ruffini served as webmaster for Bush-Cheney ‘04,
Other professional highlights include a previous stint at the RNC during the 2002 cycle and time well spent at the American Enterprise Institute, one of the nation’s leading conservative think tanks.
Not exactly “just some blogger”.
I never claimed that the administration or McCain campaign said minorities were to blame. I said Republicans were saying that. And you can’t refute that.
Another strawman to add to your current pile.
Pinhead Lester is hardly worth wasting your breath on, Dora.
He’s delusional at this point, like arguing with an 8 year old. We make fun of the wingnut “minoritity mortgages caused the meltdown!” claim (as though we made it up) and he says WE’RE the racists and wants to know exactly when Hero McPOW said it.
These guys have non-functioning brains, and they seize up even worse as the “wingnut stew” they eat around election time is spiked with even stronger right wing poison and fecal matter. Think what the gas must be like! Their poor families!
parthian, they really are swirling the bowl now.
Nope.. And you need to support you own B.S. claims, not expect me to take you dubious word for it.
So the truth comes out, the comments about political strategy are from..wait for it now… guess what! a political strategist.. surprise surprise.
Must of learned from the Clinton strategist eh?
–
I never claimed that the administration or McCain campaign said minorities were to blame. I said Republicans were saying that. And you can’t refute that.
Sure I can. I can name several Republicans that dont say that. You probably dont know them, but obviously, according to your straw brained argument, if one republican said it, it must be the position of the entire party.
I guess all democrats keep 25 thou in their freezer and somehow cant figure out the tax code, even when they are in charge of writing it eh?
The strawman is your argument that “republicans” say minorities are the cause of the bail out.
As far as partial brains continued not supported racist claims, The non functional types here are the obamination supporters who continue to do just exactly what he is best at.. pointing fingers and doing nothing. To attempt to cast blame on one party for a policy begun by democrats and supported by both parties for at least two decades is the height of childishness. Theirs obviously a reason Frank’s first name is “Barney” he’s thinking just like a political dinosaur.
You must get your straw by the bale Les.
Yeah, Republican strategists who advise Republican candidates have nothing whatever to do with the Republican Party.
The Republican Party and John McCain have proudly trumpted their anti-regulation policies. Now they can’t get away from them fast enough.
trumpted = trumpeted
“and all the Committee Repubs voted for the 2005 GSE regulation bill, how come it was never voted onto the senate floor”
BECAUSE IT TAKES 60 VOTES TO PASS SOEMTHING IN THE SENATE, D***A**. The Democrats made it very clear they would NOT support any changes in the regulations. When this was indicated the Republicans simply did not push the bill
Regardless, this is simply a good example of how government interfers with the market, and how small levels of money can have multiples of influence. These GSE’s made sure that they bribed both parties with tons of campaign contributions….of course, no politicians compare to the amounts of money that Chris Dodd and Barrack Obama received.
Regardless, what Dora and Pantheon are now arguing is that it was the Republicans that were pushing housing for the little guy…..absurd.
well isn’t this special:
Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough.
They knew about it over previous months and weeks but dump it on Congress on Friday and screech about how it has to be passed fast?
This is starting to smell very bad.
When Dora talks about “Republicans” involved in this mess, I simply say Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson…enough said.
Of course you would mark, even though it’s meaningless. You Republicans love to pull meaningless crap out of your @sses and puff up some faux outrage over it while ignoring the real outrage. We expect nothing else from you.
More bullsh1t. From WaPO, http://tinyurl.com/4g88qb:
“Several lawmakers, including Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), an influential member of the Banking Committee, are pushing for a provision that would require participating firms to grant the government warrants to purchase stock.
Sources familiar with the Treasury’s thinking said warrants would limit participation in the program. Only failing banks would be willing to give the government stock in exchange for buying up their bad assets, these sources said.”
Why shouldn’t participation be limited to failing banks? Isn’t that what this bailout is all about?
My impression is that this so-called bailout was supposed to be more about getting the bad debt flushed out of the system, allowing the credit system to return to some level of functionality; as opposed to forcing everything to fold before we go around and pick up the pieces.
Perhaps I am wrong about that and we should just wait for things to be completely ruined before stepping in and removing the contaminants from the system.
Off today, I still don’t miss this blog either but this was too rich to not pass on. Biden, Biden, Biden. First he agrees with decent people and says the Mccain computer ad was wrong, gets his hand slapped by obabymama, now says he didn’t see the ad and doesn’t agree. moron. Now he says that when Franklin Roosevelt used to go on tv and tell the public what was going on. Soooo, between 1901 and 1909, Roosevelt used to appear on tv? I wonder if they filmed it in hi-def too? I sincerely think he is tanking on purpose ( although he is an idiot) to allow obaby to take hillary on as vp.
now i am gone again. i am really enjoying seeing the dems implode like they always do. i also have been working on the campaign rather than wasting time here.
before i get corrected, i had the wrong dates of his presidency but he is still wrong and tv was not around yet.
the stock market crash was in 1929. Two problems here: Television did not even exist in 1929, and FDR was elected in 1932, so he wasn’t even the leader at the time of the crash. When Joe was in history class, was he cheating by looking over the class dunce’s shoulder, or does he just make this stuff up? Of course, TV celebrity Katie Couric also didn’t note that Biden’s statement was doubly incorrect. Her goal was a softball puff piece.”
“Of course you would mark, even though it’s meaningless. You Republicans love to pull meaningless crap out of your @sses and puff up some faux outrage over it while ignoring the real outrage. We expect nothing else from you. ”
This is about as substantive as Dora gets. There were a lot of bad actors out there, but the political blame goes to the Democrats, that is obvious. THe goal of controlling a large segment of the mortgage business and getting “affordable” housing made them block any meaningful reform and regulations to the GSE’s that were the main driver of this mess.
The problem with the talk of a “bailout” is that I believe, just like the S&L bailout, that the numbers being bandied about are way overstated.
There is only $1.3 trillion in sub-prime debt out there. Around 25% of this is bad, or about $325 billion. So, the net cost of bailing out all of the bad subprime debt is about $175 billion because even the bad debt has some positive net value, i.e the underlying real estate value is worth about 50 cents on the dollar.
But, right now, people, including the Administration, are irresponsibly talking numbers that are way out of bounds.
“but the political blame goes to the Democrats, that is obvious. ”
Oh yeah, it’s the Republican’s who are champions of regulations. What’s obvious mark is you’re an idiot. But that’s always been obvious.
“So, the net cost of bailing out all of the bad subprime debt is about $175 billion”
Let’s say you are right (and I think you are probably pretty close, mark), the figures being thrown around is the total amount the gov would use (infuse) to address the liquidity issue……not simply the dollars that would be at risk. I’m unsure why the choose to frame it in this manner, because as you point out- the amount of money actually at risk is much smaller than the amounts they are talking about so far.
Regardless of the cost, what is the cost of an economic (possibly global) seizure due to irrational panic? That is the counter-weight in this discussion. As mark correctly points out, the number of wormy apples is small, but they have made their way into a lot of various baskets, in small amounts. Suddenly, every basket of apples out there is presumed to be bad.
oh yeah, that blogger was nuts, eh Les?
From The Hill:
He [Newt Gingrich] predicted that, if Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) ends up opposing the administration proposal, there will be an overnight “emergence of a McCain/reform wing of the Republican Party.”
Gingrich said that occurrence would turn the election on its head, with Republicans running ads that feature Obama with President Bush on the same team in pushing for a “nightmare” bailout plan.
“Oh yeah, it’s the Republican’s who are champions of regulations. What’s obvious mark is you’re an idiot. But that’s always been obvious.
”
Again, another example of Dora’s argument.
The Republicans offered reform regulation both in 2003 and 2005. The Democrats blocked both initiatives.
John McCain supported both reform efforts. Barrack Obama did not (at leat the 2005).
Regulation is not rejected offhand by the Republicans. Only stupid, inefficient, and ineffective regulations are. Much of the Federal Regs are jsut that; beauracratic paperwork that really solves nothing. We favor, and ALWAYS HAVE, effective regulations that get the job done not provide jobs for nitpickers.
As far as the “bailout” I support it in general. The main pieces of the bail out will be to cover the problems caused by the GSE’s. That is the problem with interfering in the market to begin with and this is the cost. In the long run the cost is negligible (less than 1% of total federal spending over the next decade).
The bailouts already agreed to are over $1.1 trillion. The current Paulson bailout is another $700 billion, for a total of $1.8 trillion in bailouts in a six month period.
The numbers are far higher than whatever the total of sub-prime mortgages are because the problem infects all types of mortgages and other credit instruments and because the banks and investment banks leveraged these crappy “assets” and securitized them. mark is also ignoring the unregulated credit default swap “market” which supposedly insures these devaluing securities.
If mark were correct about the “real” size of the problem, then the administration’s demand for the entire $700 billion now is open fraud. But mark is ill informed and the problem is much worse than he thinks.
These bailouts are already destroying the dollar and will wreck the economy as foreign investors clear out and shy away from buying Treasuries in future.
At this point, Paulson and Bernanke refuse to reveal the story of Impending Catastrophe that they told the Congress last Thursday. Dems should require that Paulson and Bernanke repeat their entire prediction of upcoming collapse on national television for the entire nation (and world) to hear, before any bailout is approved.
When even wingnut extremists like mark assert that the administration is lying about the bailout, then certainly nothing should be voted on until the claimed disaster is fully explained. The Congress should approve nothing comprehensive under Bushco and tell Paulson to should just continue his ad hoc bailout-a-week policy until Bushco is flushed and we get a new admin.
The Paulson bailout would focus on mortgage backed securities issued by private banks and investment banks, and would use the GSEs to purchase the crap. The idea that the GSEs were “the driver” in creating all these bad securities is laughable.
As is the idea that the GSEs even created most of the bad mortgages (subprime and otherwise) that the whole house of cards is built on—they simply bought them. And Bushco’s HUD demanded that they buy even more of them starting in 2004.
What’s your evidence that Democrats blocked regulation? What bills are you referring to specifically?
Yeah, economist mark thinks the cost of the bailout is negligible. You are a fool. There is nobody that believes that.
What a minute. 2003 and 2005? During the time the Republicans controlled both House and Senate in addition to the WH? How stupid are you mark? Oh wait, we know the answer to that.
And are you talking about the Senate companion to the one I posted about that Oxley said was passed by the House in 2005 that the WH, the Treasury, and the Fed gave the “one-finger salute”? The Senate companion was introduced in 2005 by Hagel and yes McCain cosponsored but it died in committee. A Republican controlled committee. And when Hagel reintroduced in 2007 McCain removed his cosponsorship.
My quick research indicate that the 2005 GSE reform legislation was overwhelmingly approved in the House (over 300 votes, so quite bipartisan), was referred to a (Repub controlled) senate committee and never even voted out of committee.
So you can forget your “Dem filibuster” fantasy, mark. And as Dora’s post at 8:34 makes clear, the Repub author of the House bill claims now that Bushco opposed it, would would make sense.
Poor Dora, she just doesn’t understand how our government works. It is pretty easy to understand Dora. The minority party can block any bill unless the majority can get 60 votes.
That is the reason that the dems want to get to 60 senate seats this election. They want to be able to pass legislation over any republican objections.
So it is very accurate to state that the repubs saw this issue and were blocked by the dems in 2005.
Given the number of posts per day, you should get a hobby Dora. Or a real job.
John McCain, judgement to lead! God bless you Senator McCain!
Is that what they did CNC? Uh, no. Oxley said the bill passed the House. Parthian’s research showed it passed overwhelmingly. It never got a hearing in the Republican controlled Senate committee. As per usual, you have no idea what you’re talking about.
We need a serious investigation into wht we are in the current mortgage crisis, but Congress controlling democrats who love calling for investigations won’t do it this time, simply because the finger will point to Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Hussein Obama, and other libs.
There has been more talk of an October surprise with Joe Biden backing down for whatever reason and Hillary taking his place around Oct. 5th. Has anyone else heard of this?
It’s a combination of things, D2. The folks I work with say it’s a combination of Greenspan in the 1990s as well as too much emphasis on deregulation.
Yeah, I saw that particular chain email about Biden. You sure are gullible. Do you remember the Cocktober suprise in 2006? Something like 6 GOP sex scandals all in one month. That was funny.
Two words that are sure to disappoint: “live blogging”
…and now the liberals are making sh1t up, saying that McCain’s campaign manager’s been on the payroll of FannieMae as late as last month.
WHAT A RIDICULOUS, BALD-FACED L…
…well I guess it’s actually true.
Anyway, we know McCain’s a maverick who’d never be involved in any kind of banking or financial misdealings…he wouldn’t even exercise poor judgement like that.
Anybody out there?
My messages are being blocked again. No wonder no one is posting much on this liberal blog which restricts freedom of speech.
McCain is putting country first again. The dems continue to place themselves first:
“”Yesterday, Harry Reid said that consensus couldn’t be achieved without John McCain’s leadership. John stepped up and is providing that leadership. Now Senator Reid seems to have changed his mind for reasons we’ll let him explain. But what he should understand is that this isn’t about Harry Reid or John McCain or Barack Obama. It’s about the American people and, in the words of Warren Buffet, the financial Pearl Harbor they’re facing. John’s committed to doing his part to help avert that calamity. We hope Senator Reid is too.”"
That’s just CNC’s famous stupidity filter D2. If you’re smart enough, you can figure your way around it…but that’s the real question for you, isn’t it?
McCain’s “putting country first” is a convenient way to slip out of a debate that he’s not prepared for. I’m sorry, but the issue isn’t so urgent that they can’t take 3 hours on Friday night to have the debate as scheduled. McCain’s campaign is becoming the looniest ever.
As I predicted three weeks ago, America is waking up to the real Sarah Palin, and the polls are once again trending back toward Obama. If the polls turn back around towards McCain, I wonder if he’ll suggest suspending the campaign until election day?
“a convenient way to slip out of a debate that he’s not prepared for.”
That’s funny stuff. The theme of the debate is supposed to be foreign affairs, so if there is one candidate that may not be prepared to take on the other- its more likely Obama. But he never misses a chance to step in front of a microphone, so I’m not shocked that he is insisting on going through with the debate.
On one hand, McCain is right that both of them should be in DC right now handling this economic issue. However, I find it somewhat disingenuious to bring it up now, because neither of them have put their Senate responsibilities ahead of campaigning at any time in the last couple years.
It is something of a waste of time anyway, because the outcome of the debate will likely be as follows: Obama will sound great while saying nothing, McCain will come off as a very knowledgable, poor speaker, and the country (if they are watching) should be wondering why they aren’t at the office instead of on TV making childish jabs at each other.
Good point Jay. But I think “debates” are a good thing, even though they’re not true debates.
If Obama were trying to postpone, I think the rhetoric from conservatives would be deafening.
No, don’t me wrong….I think debates are typically great. They are a much better reflection of what a candidate’s positions/ideas truely are because they are not just working from a prepared script(though they will have their laundry list of prepared comments that they will look for opportunities to use).
I won’t bother to argue the comment about rhetoric because, as I said, the notion of Obama ever turning down a chance to get on TV in front of a mic, is about as likely as the sun failing to come up in the morning.
The first debate wasn’t going to just be on foreign affairs.
Marc Ambinder: “A senior Obama adviser says that the CPD has told both campaigns that there will be questions about the economic crisis during Friday’s debate.
They were told this last week…”
Of course. That’s why I didn’t say it was “just going to be on foreign affairs.” I said “the theme of the debate”….which is true. I don’t know that I’ve ever watched a debate in which it was somehow mandated that all material be focused on one topic. More desparate word-twisting by Dora.
Go back to bed.
prediction- Dora: “Geez, touchy this morning, Jay…”
“word-twisting”?! Poor Jay.
tell me where I’m wrong? I said the theme of the debate was to be foreign affairs and you come back with “the first debate wasn’t just going to be foreign affairs.”
Your posts are tiresome, predictable, and lately, of little use.
Simple Jay. You’re over-reacting. You make everything I say all about you. You’re just not that important.
Now this is just nuts:
From Forbes.com: In fact, some of the most basic details, including the $700 billion figure Treasury would use to buy up bad debt, are fuzzy.
“It’s not based on any particular data point,” a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. “We just wanted to choose a really large number.”
Schumer is on to something when he said yesterday to start with $150 billion.
“You make everything I say all about you.”
Funny thing, but when someone attempts to “correct” a comment I made, I take that as being about me. The vast majority of things you say, I ignore……so to claim I attempt to make those “about me” is also a ridiculous claim.
You are also correct that I am not that important. However, I am way too important to waste any more of my time engaged with your trivial garbage. I have a 4-year old I can do that with when the urge strikes me.
If you look back, the comments you posted by the Treasury spokesman were exactly what mark posted several days ago…….after which you dismissed him as being an idiot.
Your problem Jay is in thinking I was correcting you.
Please do continue to ignore me. We all prefer it that way.
I don’t think you were actually correcting anyone, least of all me. That implies you’d need to be correct about something in the first place.
If I didn’t know better, I’d say you guys have a crush on each other.
I’m very impressed with how the both of you get off topic so quickly by taking things personally - reminds me of my alcoholic father-in-law.
Well, Sarge, the topic is still the McCain rally so if we didn’t all manage to get off-topic, the BQ blog would be even closer to dead than it has already become.
LOL yeah that’s true. More “Live Blogging” discussion clearing.
Maybe this weekend BQ will decide to put out a new topic. How’s this one?
John McCain knew our financial situation was heading for serious trouble and tried to do something about it, but his attempts were blocked by liberal democrats like Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd. Why aren’t these corrupt politicians being held accountable?
It’s the House Republicans that are blocking the legislation D2. Jeez, do you bother reading the news ever?
They don’t like the idea of the federal goverment taking things over - including bad debt. I actually sort of admire them for finally sticking to their hands-off principles (even if it’s the wrong thing right now)… especially considering the volume of corporate handouts that came from the Bush administration.
Don’t you think it’s kind of hillarious that as soon as House Republicans start acting like Republicans, you get p1ssed off that no progress is being made?
McCain’s there for the photo op, and to make it look like he actually knows something about the economy. Obama’s only there because McCain’s there.
One of these days, I’m going to give a Washington 101 Boot Camp seminar - D2, you’ll be at the top of my invite list.
D2SI - Dora won’t like you telling the truth. I predict she will call you a name. Isn’t there some saying about throwing stones and glass houses?
Here is what happened in 2005:
“What happened next was extraordinary. For the first time in history, a serious Fannie and Freddie reform bill was passed by the Senate Banking Committee. The bill gave a regulator power to crack down, and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets.
Different World
If that bill had become law, then the world today would be different. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, a blizzard of terrible mortgage paper fluttered out of the Fannie and Freddie clouds, burying many of our oldest and most venerable institutions. Without their checkbooks keeping the market liquid and buying up excess supply, the market would likely have not existed.
But the bill didn’t become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn’t even get the Senate to vote on the matter.”
This supports the factd that the republicans have been putting country first since at least 2005!
And Obama - he was present but chose not to lead.
Michele has a great op-ed in today’s paper. We need some of her worthless colleagues step to the plate as well. Even Clinton laid this mess at the Dem’s door, although it’s still a 70-30 blame deal as Repubs have been pretty lame on this mess, too.
I know Parth is still the genius, soon to explain where Pres Clinton and Michele have it all wrong. The lefties here are incapable of criticizing their
beloved buffoons.
This Congress will likely go down as the worst! ever: exploding gas prices, record deficits, finanical disaster after disaster, crashing stock markets,
bank failures, ……
Is there one thing this Congress has done right? One thing?
Oh yea, it ends soon
)
“Oh yea, it ends soon ) ”
That’s right Jim - in January we’ll have at least 4 more Democrats in the Senate and 8 more Democrats in the house.
http://www.electoral-vote.com/
I suspect you’ll be blaming congress for at least the next two years.
“in January we’ll have at least 4 more Democrats in the Senate and 8 more Democrats in the house.”
That’s probably not a bad thing, Sgt. This country seems to operate reasonably well when we have Congress controlled by the Democrats and a Republican in the White House (or vice versa).
I agree — it’s just that CNC, D2, and Jim seem to believe that the GOP is going to get back both houses of congress this election.
That’s about as likely as Bill Clinton keeping his mouth shut between now and election day.
I think there is probably enough time and important issues hanging in the balance for either party to win/lose control of Congress……voters are paying closer attention than usual to things going on right now. I also think that is a major reason for the breakdown in passage of the legistation at hand right now….too many politicians worried about keeping their jobs 6 weeks from now.
Absolutely. What concerns me is that Bernake and Paulson are kind of freaking out about this — they’re both pretty smart guys and they seem scared.
By the way - anyone see the Palin’s interview? I can see why they don’t want to have her talk to reporters…
COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more, and put more money into the economy, instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in. Where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it’s got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade — we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation.
your link doesn’t work CNC. What bill are you referring to? S 190? That one never was voted on in the Republican controlled committee. It’s companion passed overwhelmingly in the House. If that’s not the one you’re referring to, then which one is it?
Well no wonder he wanted to skip the debate, McCain has already determined he won it.
From The Fix: http://tinyurl.com/4ajkz2
Although the fate of tonight’s presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the air, John McCain has apparently already won it — if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.
“McCain Wins Debate!” declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: “McCain won the debate– hands down.”
Stick a fork in McCain’s campaign.
Who can’t love Dora and Sarge?
Sarge again makes up my positions:
For the record, I in no way expect or even want the Repubs to win this cycle, dimwit.
The only silver lining to this mess is watching the lame Dem leadership wobble like drunken sailors. They should have rung up a trillion dollar deficit for 2009 by the time this session ends.
The war goes on, it’s now ok to drill, the economy crashes, they appove the admin’s wiretaps, and on and on.
The Dems are truly good humor.
My worry is the left so screws up the current situation that the right wins both the White House and Congress, and them gets smeared trying to clean this immense pile of garbage left from Pelosi.
It is literally Mission: Impossible.
The Dems can win in November. Good luck!
And still, no leftie criticisms of their own here. Really, that says it all about their credibility. Even Sarge is left to mock Palin when Biden is the Gaffe-master–Day in Day out!
Yet, Sarge still singles out Palin.
Misogynist, no doubt.
We will see if this one is censured by the Redstar. They seem to have a problem with the truth. Maybe Dora is finally showing up for work?
Another source for the 2005 SBC:
“In 2005, the Senate Banking Committee, then under Republican control, adopted a strong reform bill, introduced by Republican Sens. All the Republicans on the Committee supported the bill, and all the Democrats voted against it. Mr. McCain endorsed the legislation in a speech on the Senate floor. Mr. Obama, like all other Democrats, remained silent.”
Jim, feel free to correct me if I misstate your postion - you don’t even need to call me a name.
But please explain to me how criticizing a person because she can’t speak in a coherent fashion equal misogyny.
Actually - don’t bother — just tell me one thing: Why should I vote for someone’s to be VP if that person can’t articulate a simple policy or position? How am I supposed to know what her beliefs are if she can’t explain them?
By the way - politics aside, I think the real winner tonight was the format of the debate. Not a barn burner, but still more interesting than the war of the 30 second sound bite.
Channel 9 is reporting that the Madia campaign was caught stealing Paulsen signs. Check out the video on their web site.
“Another person in the video points out the sign stealer has an Ashwin Madia bumper sticker.
‘I also happen to be a Madia volunteer,’ she says.
A check of a license plate reveals she’s married to Dan Pollock — Ashwin Madia’s communications director and spokesperson.”
you still haven’t answered the question CNC. what bill are you referring to? It has to be S 190. Why didn’t the Republican controlled committee move it forward? They controlled the committee 11 to 9. They could have moved it forward it they wanted to. McCain spoke up on the Senate floor to get additional sponsors. He failed. They were not voting on it when he spoke up. It died in the committee. The Democrats didn’t hold anything up.
Anyone who still sopports social*st Obama after the debate with John McCain either needs to register with the Social*st Party of America or have their head examined.
It’s been over a week since a new topic has been posted. Should we take a vote on a new one?
George W. Bush should register with them too D2 — he’s taken over AIG.
“George W. Bush should register with them too D2 — he’s taken over AIG.”
I’ve always said that Bush is too liberal on some issues. Thank God the CONSERVATIVE Republicans are protecting us from Partisan’s wish to turn us all social*st.

St. Paul Port Authority agrees to buy East St. Paul 3M campus
Part of the 3M CampusThe St. Paul Port Authority has agreed to buy 35 acres of 3M Co.’s St. Paul campus with an option to buy the remaining 10 acres in 2011. Located along the high-profile Phalen Corridor, currently undergoing a 10-year redevelopment initiative, the Port Authority will pay about $3.5 million for the 35-acre parcel.
Liberals never listen. 3M is expanding, in Texas

I’ve said many times that the liberals in Minnesota are raising taxes on businesses (and chasing them out) so they can import and fund more welfare recipients from Chicago and across the globe. Does anyone wonder why most of the Northwest/Delta operations will be moved to Georgia?
We are so screwed if we don’t vote the democrats out this November.
I came back just to give Sarge an early Christmas present. Someone just sent this to me, a video of Palin’s swimsuit competition:
http://www.break.com/index/sarah-palin-1984-beauty-pageant.html
No need to thank me.Bye.
O.T.,
Thanks for sharing this.
Where are all the liberals anyway?
Thank you OT - I already saw it.
D2, 3M doesn’t negotiate well with unions - it has nothing to do with taxes.

This explains how the democrat party caused the current financial disaster we’re in.
From FiveThirtyEight.com, Obama has a 5 to 6 point lead in 4 of 5 tracking polls. This is pre-debate data and it’s very unlikely McCain’s performance was able to reverse this trend.
From the Boston Globe:
But voters are now apparently having doubts. A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released yesterday found that while 47 percent of likely voters believed that Palin had the personality and leadership qualities a president should have, 49 percent said she didn’t.
Compare that with her Democratic counterpart Joe Biden: 55 percent said he had the necessary qualities, while only 39 percent said he did not. Both Barack Obama and John McCain had 62 percent of voters believing they have what it takes to be president.
It’s not looking good for McCain and while initially I was mystified by his VP pick, I believe I now know what his strategy was. John McCain has known from the beginning he had no chance of winning this election and being the patriot that he is, he picks Palin to lay bare the radical and toxic agenda of the evangelical right. The net effect of his VP pick was to pound the last nail in the coffin of the religious right’s political influence.
Has anyone else had trouble posting comments? It’s getting very difficult to get ANYTHING through!
Don’t buy into these polls Dick, they always favor the left. Just the other day one which favored Obama was proven to have over sampled blacks and dems.
If that’s what helps you get sleep at night, bigot, then you run with that. The reality of the situation is staring you in the face though, and if you deal with it now, you might end up less toxic. Your party and your philosophy has failed. Your party and your philosophy has brought our nation to the brink of failure. Your party and and your philosophy has beggered our nation both financially and morally. As the National Journal urged Palin to step aside for the good of the country, you should step aside and let Democratic party repair the tremendous damage to the nation your party and your philosophy has done to our nation.
Dick,
It’s interesting how the economy started to go down the toilet as soon as the democrat party took control of BOTH houses of Congress, isn’t it?
Dick,
The democrats will destroy this country if given the chance. Social*sm never works.
D2SI - Half of my posts don’t get posted. It is likely the op/ed idiots who can’t allow the truth to be heard.
By the way, did you hear about the bracelet that Obama wears? (The one that Obama had to read to remember the young man’s name.) The family of the dead soldier has asked him not to wear it and not to mention the soldiers name. Why wouldn’t Obama respect the family’s wishes? It is too bad the liberal media won’t pursue this story.
More right wing manufactured outrage that CNC is more than happy to repeat even though it’s completely wrong.
“Tracy Jopek of Merrill told The Associated Press on Sunday she was honored that Obama remembered Sgt. Ryan David Jopek, who was killed in 2006 by a roadside bomb.
Jopek criticized Internet reports suggesting Obama, D-Ill., exploited her son for political purposes.
“I don’t understand how people can take that and turn it into some garbage on the Internet,” she said.
Jopek acknowledged e-mailing the Obama campaign in February asking that the presidential candidate not mention her son in speeches or debates. But she said Obama’s mention on Friday was appropriate because he was responding after Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, said a soldier’s mother gave him a bracelet.
Jopek says Obama’s comment rightfully suggested there’s more than one viewpoint on the war.”
Certain words or phrases block your posts (like you can’t say V1ag ra or c1alis. Also, trying to submit too many posts in a short period of time will stop them as well.
Sarge,
I think some of us screened more than others. Liberals like Partisan problem get through the easiest.
Ah OK D2 - just keep that aluminum foil on your head, and it will stop the aliens from reading your mind.
