St. Cloud State poll has Hatch by 10 and Klobuchar by 25

October 31st, 2006 – 5:15 PM by Eric Black

If fresh poll results are truly the equivalent of crack cocaine for political junkies, prepare to overdose.

Here comes the one big annual running of the St. Cloud State Survey, by political scientist Steve Frank and at 10 p.m. I should be able to post the Senate race results from the Humphrey Institute survey.

This is the week to watch the polls for who might begin pulling away and how many other polls show the same trend.

Mike Grimes says:

Hatch by 10? What the heck is wrong with Minnesotans? Why won’t the fiscal conservitives of this state stand up for themselves?

Joe Skillings says:

Three words: St. Cloud State.

Why do you people take these polls with any sort of seriousness? When Normandale releases its poll, will Eric Black post it on his blog? How about the Anoka High School poll?

There’s a week left until the election. Instead of trying to suppress the GOP vote with biased polls, let’s wait to see the results of the only real poll: the election on Nov. 7.

Dora says:

October 31st, 2006 at 6:12 pm

A poll is an attempt to suppress the GOP vote? How ridiculous. Real voter suppression is inappropriately purging voters from voter rolls, jamming phone lines to suppress GOTV efforts, not having enough ballots in certain precincts all of which are Republican specialties.

Mike Grimes says:

Maybe more Republicans have died in the last 4 years then Democrats.

Dora,

Joe is right. Liberals know that people tend to like choosing winners, so they manipulate polls to show an advantage to democrats. It’s pathetic, but it’s what liberals do.

Dora,

Liberal polls like the ones done by the Strib have always showed the democrats as being more popular than than they really are. Didn’t the Strib poll predict Skip Humphrey (DFL) to win big in the Governors race a while back? He ended up finishing in third place.

Please check your facts before making ignorant and nasty statements.

Dora says:

October 31st, 2006 at 7:09 pm

To say that liberals are manipulating polls to show an advantage to Democrats is an ignorant statement. And whining about “nasty statements” is laughable since you make many of them yourself. Polls don’t “predict” winners. They merely show what those who were polled say at a given point in time.

You are wrong. Not only are democrats using polls to sway voters, but I expect a lot of voter fraud as well.

what state are you talking about? not here i know. so far this year it appears all the campaign violations are being gobbled up by your precious dems. klobo- 2 strikes, wetterling- 1 strike. three strikes- youre out. they are so desperate to win, they have the msm working overtime to assist.

i really like what that piece of s**t kerry said yesterday too. hes hould step down immediately, especially after calling the military terrorists before. this better get more press than the stupid macaca story but we all know the msm will up for him.

What you need to do is to check the details of the poll. Who did they ask?Check out a poll on Bill O’Reilly. 90% positive for the Conservative view. Put the same question to Daily Kos, it would go the other way. Don’t you think that a newspaper that comes out and endorses a democrat would want to see their candidate in the lead?

Brian G says:

And a comment about Kerry. How many times does this guy get to disparage the soldiers of this country?

Dora says:

both dare2 and ramrod have gone off the deep end. You see the GOP going down and you’re losing all rationality.

Right dare2, all these polls are being conducted by evil Democrats. Do you realize how out of touch with reality you sound? You have absolutely no evidence of “alot of voter fraud”. It’s a red herring you constantly push along with all your others. You have no evidence to support any of your ridiculous claims.

The Republican’s are push polling in the west metro. There are no charges of campaign violations filed against Dems. And it’s absolutely ridiculous for you and the Bush cabal to push the outrageous claim that Kerry called the military terrorsts. That’s crap and Kerry slammed them for their lies. But you and the Republicans are just hunkey dorey with calling Democrats terrorists. Fear and smear, it’s just not working so well for you this year.

Dora says:

October 31st, 2006 at 9:18 pm

How many times do the Republicans get to disparage other Americans just because they belong to the Democratic party? How many times do Republicans get to twist the words and lie about Democrats who are veterans? You are so transparent. The Strib had nothing to do with this poll.

Team Ramrod says:

A careful review of the facts shows that in 2004, paid Democrat operatives were far more involved in voter intimidation and suppression efforts than their Republican counterparts. Examples include:
* Paid Democrat operatives charged with slashing tires of 25 Republican get-out-the-vote vans in Milwaukee on the morning of Election Day.

* Misleading telephone calls made by Democrat operatives targeting Republican voters in Ohio with the wrong date for the election and faulty polling place information.

* Intimidating and deceiving mailings and telephone calls paid for by the DNC threatening Republican volunteers in Florida with legal action.

* Union-coordinated intimidation and violence campaign targeting Republican campaign offices and volunteers resulting in a broken arm for a GOP volunteer in Florida.

Vote fraud and voter registration fraud were significant problems in at least a dozen states around the county. Vote fraud is a reality in America that occurred not only in large battleground states like Wisconsin but in places like Alabama and Kentucky. The record indicates that in 2004, voter registration fraud was mainly the work of so-called “nonpartisan” groups such as Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and NAACP National Voter Fund. Examples include:

* Joint task force in Wisconsin found “clear evidence of fraud in the Nov. 2 election in Milwaukee,” including more than 200 felon voters, more than 100 double voters and thousands more ballots cast than voters recorded as having voted in the city.

* NAACP National Voter Fund worker in Ohio paid crack cocaine in exchange for a large number of fraudulent voter registration cards in names of Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins and other fictional characters.

* Former ACORN worker said there was “a lot of fraud committed” by group in Florida, as ACORN workers submitted thousands of fraudulent registrations in a dozen states across the country, resulting in a statewide investigation of the group in Florida and multiple indictments and convictions of ACORN/Project Vote workers for voter registration fraud in several states.

dare2sayit says:

Dora,

My understanding is that Republicans see the need to somehow prove you are a resident to be able to vote. This makes total sense! You need to show an ID to cash a check, get on an airplane, buy a six pack of beer, etc.

The Strib endorses DFL’er Mark Ritchie because be backs the liberal “honor system” of voting which really pisses me off. Minnesota has the most liberal policy for voting in the country, and an illegal alien or non-citizen can vote by showing a utility bill or with a voucher. This rediculous system has to come to an end soon.

After witnessing the massive illegal alien rally in St. Paul earlier this year, my feeling is that a large percentage of these people will try to illegally vote for liberal democrats like Klobuchar and Wetterling who will do nothing to stop illegal immigration and push for amnesty.

So you are pulling your info from a partisan site. Confirmation bias in all its glory.

Steve B says:

October 31st, 2006 at 9:59 pm

Ah, that one half of confirmation bias! Ignore information that is contradictory to your belief!

As we can all see here, several posters discredit the results of the poll by attacking the organization who conducted it. By doing so, they are able to rationalize their belief to the contradictory and thus block out that information.

–Insert Joe Skillings October 31st, 2006 at 6:05 pm; dare2sayit October 31st, 2006 at 6:29 pm posts about here–

A critical eye at toward the information above would note that the sampling design is not included. Thus, a conclusion of “biased” sampling can not be drawn as the posters do not present any information to back up such a claim. Further, a claim of accuracy can also not be made.

4 Sentenced for Election Day Tire Slashing

By GRETCHEN EHLKE, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 26, 1:24 PM ET

MILWAUKEE – A congresswoman’s son and three Democratic campaign workers were sentenced Wednesday to four to six months in jail for slashing tires outside a Bush-Cheney campaign office on Election Day 2004.

The men pleaded no contest in January to misdemeanor property damage. A fifth worker was found not guilty.

“This case had to be a public example of what can happen when you interfere with voters’ rights,” said Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Michael Brennan, who rejected prosecutors’ recommendation of probation for the four men.

The state Republican Party had rented more than 100 vehicles to give rides to voters and poll monitors on Nov. 2, 2004. The cars were parked outside a GOP campaign office when the tires were punctured. The vandalism left the drivers scrambling for new vehicles.

Among those sentenced Wednesday were Sowande A. Omokunde, the son of U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wisconsin, and Michael Pratt, the son of former acting Milwaukee Mayor Marvin Pratt.

“I love my son very much. I’m very proud of him,” Moore said. “He’s accepted responsibility.”

Omokunde was sentenced to four months in jail; Pratt and Lewis Caldwell of Milwaukee were sentenced to six months; and Lavelle Mohammad of Milwaukee was sentenced to five months. All were granted work-release privileges.

Brennan also ordered them to pay a $1,000 fine each, in addition to the $5,317 in total restitution ordered earlier.

The four could have faced up to nine months in jail term and fines of $10,000.

Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes in the 2004 election ended up going to Democrat John Kerry.

I read about the WI tire slashing at the time.

You’re the one posting the claims, you back them up.

And then there’s the well publicized phone jamming case that resulted in indictments of 3 GOP operatives. Two pled guilty and served sentences and one was found guilty but is appealing.

from an AP story: GOP Marketplace in turn paid an Idaho telemarketing company $2,500 to place hundreds of computerized hang-up calls to five phone lines used by state Democrats and one used by the Manchester firefighters’ union, the indictment says. More than 800 hang-up calls tied up the phones for nearly an hour and a half, before the unnamed official ordered McGee to stop the jamming.

One of the races affected was the U.S. Senate contest between Democratic Gov. Jeanne Shaheen and Republican U.S. Rep. John E. Sununu. It was considered very tight, but Sununu ended up winning by about 20,000 votes.

The guy from GOP marketplace was on Countdown yesterday.

My main point here has been that there will be a whole lot of illegal voting going on in Minnesota this election with the vast majority of these votes going to democrats, not who slashed tires or made hang up calls. Illegal voting is far more dangerous to America.

We need to stop our liberal voting rules, the most liberal and rediculous in the Country.

How about this? We let the Dem’s keep the policy of allowing anyone to vote, illegal alien or not, but many of the people who voted “same day” registration will be followed up on randomly. Any illegal alien or non-citizen caught voting will be deported.

Since liberals believe that illegals never vote, they should have nothing to worry about. What do you think Dora?

Oh yeah, she was blindsided. What a joke.

BLITZER: On Friday in the Situation Room on CNN, I interviewed the wife of the Vice President, Lynne Cheney. The interview generated quite a bit of commotion and we are going to replay the unedited version. First, some history. I have been covering the Cheneys for many years, including on a day-to-day basis when he was the defense secretary during the first Gulf War and I was CNN’s Pentagon correspondent. This — Mrs. Cheney has been a frequent guest on my programs. I have often invited her to discuss her new children’s books. She always is open to discussing the news of the day.

In this most recent interview, she, of course, knew we would would be speaking about politics. That was reaffirmed to her staff only hours before the interview. As a former co-host of Crossfire during the 1990s, she knows her way around the media. She was never shy about sparring with Democratic strategist and co-host.

I was surprised when she came out swinging on Friday, surprised by what she said about the “Broken Government” series and the excellent one-hour report by our chief national correspondent John King. One of the most precise and respected journalists in Washington. The decision to air sniper video which Anderson Cooper branded, I’m quoting now, “a single propaganda tape.”

The most splendiferous of sockpuppets

“C Perlman” in an Amazon spotlighted review of Lynne Cheney’s latest book writes:

I saw Lynne Cheney on the TODAY show and have just ordered many copies of the 3rd in this splendiferous series for all the children, teachers and history buffs I know!…The illustrations by Robin Priess Glasser are joyful and cartoon like so it’s really fun to look at and can inspire kids to learn about America in a fun way. Every home and school library should have a copy of this and the other 2 books by this team.

Further down the page, in a comment to D.K. Gaul, she writes:

I am the illustrator of this book and I take offense at your political comments.

Some might find her self-aggrandizing sockpuppetry distasteful, but I like to think of it as a splendiferous expression of conservative principles in action. Indeed, it’s almost Pomboesque in its greedy beauty. I’m sure Mrs. Cheney is very proud of her collaborator.

Update: Amazon removed Mrs. Perlman/Glasser’s review. Luckily, I have screen caps of both it and the comment.

My Amazon Review of Mrs.Cheney’s latest book

Frenchmen pretending to be patriots are panning my Amazon review of Mrs. Cheney’s latest children’s book. The first, Mrs. C. Perlman, the “splendiferous” author of the current spotlighted review, wasted no time savaging my contribution. Within no more than a few heartbeats of its publishing, she jealously attacked my work, writing, “Get some information before you go shooting your mouth off, mister!”

Her attack was quickly followed by another from Mr. Emmanuel Kant, who rose from the grave to call me a “jackass.” I suppose there is some deep philosophical meaning behind his use of that word. I’m not sure what that meaning might be, but I’m fairly certain that it must be unkind.

I’ve republished my review below. Be forewarned that if you choose to click “yes” on the “Was this review helpful to you” button, you’ll earn Mrs. Perlman’s wrath. She’ll become very angry if it receives enough recommendations to replace her review in the “spotlighted” section.

Disappointing, October 31, 2006
Reviewer: Gen. JC Christian, patriot (Tremonton, UT United States) –
I’ve read every book Mrs. Cheney has written since her first one, “Sisters.” Unfortunately, each has been more disappointing than the original. Sure, I think she should be applauded for introducing children to a more faith-based version of history. Heaven knows they need an alternative to that filthy fact-based stuff they’re force-fed in the schools.

But why leave out the story of the women she wrote about in “Sisters.” They’re are just as much a part of our history as the people in other stories in “Our Fifty States.” Certainly her young readers would benefit from learning about these two women’s very close, very special, very physical relationship. Now, I know that some call such relationships “an abomination in the eyes of the Lord,” but that’s only because they’re confused. As I’ve said time and time again, women can’t know women in the way they know men, because they don’t have “little soldiers.” I’m always surprised more adults don’t understand this.

Anyway, if you want a book by Lynne Cheney, choose Sisters rather than this one. The information about how ladies in the old west used sponges is worth the price of the book alone.

Sidenote: Virtually all of my other Amazon reviews have been deleted. I no longer have a legacy.

This is a place where open-minded critical thinkers of all political persuasions encounter information and arguments that both support and challenge their preconceptions. The goal is not to eliminate differences but to narrow and clarify them. We begin with a bedrock agreement that the search for insight and clarity is important, serious - and fun.

We ask commenters to be civil and substantive and, if possible, good humored. We reserve the right to delete comments that disregard this request.
