Bachmann on Iran: “There’s already an agreement made. [Iran is] going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a terrorist safe haven zone.”

February 23rd, 2007 – 11:29 AM by Eric Black

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann claims to know of a plan, already worked out with a line drawn on the map, for the partition of Iraq in which Iran will control half of the country and set it up as a “a terrorist safe haven zone” and a staging area for attacks around the Middle East and on the United States.

Michele Bachmann | Chuck KennedyShe said this in a taped interview with St. Cloud Times reporter Lawrence Schumacher, which is available as a podcast. (If you go to this link, look down on the right for “download Capitolcast.”)

There are other interesting and provocative statements in the interview. But the most amazing is at the end, when the discussion turned to Iran and Iraq, Bachmann’s reasons for sticking with the stay-until-victory camp, and her beliefs, stated as established fact, that Iran has reached an agreement to divide Iraq and set up a free-terrorism zone.

Here’s the extended excerpt:

“Iran is the trouble maker, trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And do you know why? It’s because they’ve already decided that they’re going to partition Iraq.

And half of Iraq, the western, northern portion of Iraq, is going to be called…. the Iraq State of Islam, something like that. And I’m sorry, I don’t have the official name, but it’s meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made.

They are going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a terrorist safe haven zone where they can go ahead and bring about more terrorist attacks in the Middle East region and then to come against the United States because we are their avowed enemy.”

Bachmann did not say how she knew about this plan, nor with whom Iran has made this deal.

The Big Question is seeking an interview with Bachmann to flesh out her comments. I have received a tentative commitment for an interview this afternoon and will post what I get.

Eric,

Michele Bachmann is a very attractive woman, but the Strib alway chooses the same unflattering photo of her every time when the want to attack her.

She is right about Iran being a problem in Iraq. Iran is a terrorist state and we need to do everything possible to keep their hands off of Iraq for the safety of the civilized world.

Eric writes “The Big Question is seeking an interview with Bachmann to flesh out her comments.”

I look forward to the results of this interview, particularly if you can determine the source of her information.

I been tellin’ you guys for years now–she’s nuts, man.

If the story is true, why not give her source for it? If the story is true and she won’t give her source for it: why is she taking it on herself to leak it to the public?

And why the St. Cloud Times as a venue to break a story that important? Don’t you call the NYT or Time or Newsweek or even USA Today, if you’ve got reliable insider information on something that big?

Maybe Michele Bachmann absorbed this information from Bush at the State of the Union address.

She’s the “Bush Whisperer.”

I heard she also said that little green Muslims were turning Mars into a terrorist haven.

As far as reporting on terrorist activities in the world on a daily basis, the media will have to start reporting on the IQ bombs (definitely not of the “smart” variety) this woman keeps deploying.

Glad I live in the 3rd district, so that I couldn’t be accused of supporting the biggest moron in US public life, move over James Traficant and Pat Robertson.

Well, After listening to the end of it, I’d certianly label her a Hawk as far as Iran goes.

It’s curious that she was trying to remember the “official” name. lends some creedence to her having heard a briefing on this.

But if it was classified, it’d make the Plame issue look like peanuts.

Bachmann is nothing more than an insult to the human race. Claiming to know something but unwilling to name the source is a tactic used by people trying to sell something that doesn’t exist.

There is no such plan, and she hasn’t seen any such plan, either. Maybe she should do us all a favor and remove herself from the gene pool. God will thank her for that.

Bill Prendergast says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 12:08 pm

Les points out the date of the interview and asks why we are discussing “old news.”

Well, you see, we’ve been discussing the podcast interview over at Dump Bachmann for some time now. But it’s “news” to Mr. Black and Mr. Tice and the Strib. They don’t assign guys specifically to cover Bachmann and her doings, they learn about these things when people point them out to them.

But I applaud them for calling people’s attention to this, her latest “bombshell.” Previous bombshells (unreported by the Strib) include the charge that President Bush and the Republican Congress were passing education laws to make the United States part of a one-world society, and her charge that Governor Tim Pawlenty’s “Tax-Free Zones” initiative was Marxism. And this week she’s claiming that President Bush called her, or that she called President Bush, or that President Bush called her husband about the “grab and kiss” thing she did to Bush after the state of the union–whatever, that story seems to change whenever she tells it.

Bachmann claims that she was given “classified information” during a visit to the Pentagon. Maybe this “Iraq division” thing was it. Or maybe she got this story as part of a James Dobson/Focus on the Family talking points memo. Or maybe she heard it from one of the people in the various wing nut groups she’s associated with.

Or maybe she just made it up. With this particular politician, you never know. But I doubt very much that the US government authorized this particular politician to break “international news of this importance”, using the local paper in St. Cloud, MN as a venue.

The fact it’s not been widely publicized seems to lead credence to the fact she’s talking out of her ass (otherwise known as wishful thinking).

I don’t think any “lefty” comments are even necessary to add any fuel to this fire, she does all the damage to herself (Bachman that is).

I don’t want to stop the rest of you guys from enjoying your target practice, but I would simply suggest the following:

1) Bachmann may have information you don’t;

2) The notion that the endgame of this conflict will involve a partition of Iraq is hardly news; and

3) She probably right about what such an endgame would produce.

I would suspect she’s overstating the case, especially about an agreement – I’m not sure who would even be able to make such an agreement, let alone enforce it. Unless she’s assuming that the U.S. is out of the picture and the agreement is between the powers in the region (i.e., the Saudis and the Iranians). I hope EB can interview her and maybe get some more information out there.

Meanwhile, let’s get back to the Bachmann-bashing, shall we?

If we really want to stop the financing of terrorists who would do us harm let’s start with the real source of terror and oppression in the region, Saudi Arabia. Iraq is now controlled by the Shia (“democratically” elected) who are also the majority in Iran. However, the insurgents in Iraq who are targeting U.S. forces are predominately Sunni. Sunni’s make up most of the Muslim world. If we are serious about trying to remedy the growing crises we should be actively engaging Iran to discuss the long term future of the region instead of resorting to shameless rhetoric and misinformation.

Bachmann may have information you don’t

Clearly. But is it likely that she has information that no one else in Congress has? Either she is babbling nonsense to St. Cloud, or she is babbling things that everyone else deems too sensitive and important to discuss. So is she in left field, or is she merely playing loose and fast with national security?

I’m not sure either option is encouraging.

Scott says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Mike Potter,

Keep drinking the kool aid. Iraq wants to be a part of Iran as much as they want the United States in their country.

I’d take a look at the latest issue of Newsweek for a pretty insightful piece on the relationship between the United State and Iran and how certain hard liners in both governments have done a great job destroying negotiations between the two. Might help take the blinders off ya.

chris says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 12:34 pm

I am actually fine with this plan. The terrorists need a place to train and setup their plans. Sure, there will be innocent people that die, but that is just what will happen. Enough of this fighting overseas. Bring the fight here. It is better to be on the defensive and have 1000′s of innocent people die here then over there. Plus, our military only knows how to cut and run. Each time we do it, it lets our foes know that if we see anything that is not smiling and handing out food or kicking butt that they can dicate our foreign policy. They haven’t been allowed to take the gloves off and finish a job since WW2.

of course I am being sarcastic on letting people here die. Our military needs to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of our country for all of us. Let them do their job of setting up an Iraq that can protect itself and get home.

Chris says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 12:34 pm

It seems odd that the wingnuts are so focused on Iran when the vast majority if U.S. deaths in Iraq are caused by Sunni insurgents (that get funding from other sunnis in Saudi Arabia and Jordan).

But the fact that our invasion of Iraq has tipped the balance of power in the region to Iran should come as no surprise, and it should have been a reason to not recklessly invade a country which posed no threat to the U.S. Concepts such as containment and balance of power only matter in a reality based world I guess.

If you don’t think Iran has definite plans for Iraq once the U.S. leaves then you are the ones that are nuts!
Iran is funding and training terrorists to go to Iraq and keep up the fight against us to further their terror campaign and break the will of the american people, using the liberal media as there vessel. Whether you like being there or not, we are there and own it, we cannot leave until the mission is accomplished and Iraq can be self-sufficent. If we pull out early the whole region will tumble like a house of cards; Iraq, unable to care for itself, will definitely be taken over by Iran. If our army was allowed to treat this war as a WAR instead of a police action, something our troops are not trained to do, it would have been over a long time ago.
We cannot cut and run.

Subjugate the rest of us who don’t quite live or think like they would prefer…of course in support of their god which doesn’t seem to have a problem with the concentration of wealth or bias or slaughtering people left and right to further their agenda. Lets see – people losing their lives half way around the globe vs. faith based rants and manipulation. One seems very real to me and can be validated. A.) Nice misleading headline

B.) How is surprising? Of course Iran has a plan. There are pro-Iran terrorists in the Iraqi government, and our politically-correct military strategy is the only reason they’re not all buried under six feet of sand.

C.) Come on people, the issue here is a *PLAN*. There are plans for everything. Our government certainly has “plans” to invade and/or nuke a number of Mid-East countries – does that mean those plans will be carried out? Shine some perspective (or at least a little common sense) on this.

D.) Funniest post on the board: “How in the hell did the people of her district pick this raving lunatic over Patty Wetterling?” Obviously someone missed the last 9 months of the 2006 election cycle!

Plame & Co. sent Ambassador Joe to Africa knowing full well that he would bash the administration upon his return. Ambassador Joe returns and does just that. He even had the balls to suggest that the administration sent him. So now Bush & company can say nothing and let this guy get away with a hit job, or they can look into it to determine who the hell sent him to Africa. They quickly determine it was his wife and now comes the delimma. Say nothing and take the hit from Ambassador Joe or expose the wife and get accused of outing an agent ( who wasn’t covert). One of the largest problems with the media today is that ludicrous statements such as Bachmann’s are published without any contextual clues, making it difficult for the average reader to understand how much of this material is simply wrong: “It was in the paper so it must be true.” The Trib would do a great service to its readership by not allowing such comments to be published without supporting material and/or evidence that the statement flies against the preponderance of available information.

To you liberals who think that going onto Iraq was a mistake and President Bush lied to the American people to do so have been bamboozled by their own party.

Here are a few examples of statements made by Democrats regarding Iraq.

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.” — President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998.

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”– Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998.

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.” — Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18,1998.

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.” — Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.” — Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998.

Didn’t President Bush get the same intel info from the CIA run by Tenent, a Clinton appointee, as Clinton? You people are despicable.

One thing is for sure. There will be a stabalizing force in Iraq. It will either be the US and our allies, or it will be Iran. Does anyone really doubt that the Persians are behind most of the unrest in Iraq? Plenty of evidence that proves that they are.

The Iranians have plenty to gain. For one, they would control an incredible amount of the worlds oil. All that oil means a whole lot of money for them to do with what they want. Destroy Isreal, the U.S. and the EU.

Man. I gotta say, there’s a lot of crazy Americans out there. I’m glad there’s a whole lot of others that aren’t though.

I’ve never understood how so-called ‘Christians’ align themselves with right-wing Republicans. I would’ve thought their aims would be rather opposite. The whole ‘love one another’ thing vs the whole ‘keep the US the richest and most powerful country in the world at any cost’ thing.

Seems like a strange marriage to me.

I’ve also wondered – do you think generally right-wing supporters have lower intelligence than other people?

It seems to me that right-wing political parties in general are masters of manipulating the less-intelligent parts of the population into supporting them.

Sometimes I think I should become right-wing, just because it’d be so easy to take advantage of truly stupid people. They’re just so easy to manipulate – all you have to do is push their ‘fear’ button, and they eat right out of your hands. It’s really quite amazing how easy it is.

I’m trying to resist the temptation but it’s getting harder. It just seems to me that there’s no reward for doing the ‘right’ thing – most people seem to hate you for it. You can try to explain to them again and again but it’s just ‘pearls before swine’… as Jesus said.

How do people say they’re Christian yet ignore the whole loving your fellow man and forgiveness and tolerance aspects of it? It’s like they completely miss the point. It’s all so very sad.

For conservatives to lump themselves into that group, whining that liberals are being hypocrtiical by not being tolerant of THEIR conservative views is just plain stupid, my friend. What she says has the ring of truth. Iran is a huge problem for humanity, especially with the present nutjob in charge. I expect the country will eventually implode because all they have is oil – they frighten off business and of course are completely intolerant of any other culture.

I think she is right … Iran is set to expand.

I’m so confused by those bringing religion into this pissing match. Fundamentalism in any belief-system is responsible for suffering, be it religious or ideological, Christian, Muslim, Communist, Fascist…the inability for fundamental adherents to consider differing points of view destroy what makes us human.

The most frightening aspect of this is the fundamentalist’s insistence that everyone is as unbending in their allegiance to their current worldview as they are, and thus, are unwilling to work to towards understanding.

The most apparent example to me is the Christian Fundamentalist who is able to rectify the killing of people they view as fundamentalists of a differing worldview, even though their God expressly forbids killing people and states that forgiveness is a virtue of the highest order.

Bachmann will continue to state supporting evidence of her fundamental point of view forever. While it is unlikely we can change her, we can help stop the spread of fundamentalism in all it’s forms through education.

I’d still totally hook up with her btw.

Hypocritical is Bachmann voting AGAINST the small business tax relief bill when she claims to be against raising tases. Naive is rudely grandstanding in front of the cameras and practically molesting the president at the SOTU. And abusive? Well, that was just a dumb word to use in the first place.

First, I was speaking not about the “for” or “against” comments exclusively. I was speaking to all posters.

Some posted comments are hypocritical, because they make statements that either support Ms Bachmann or rail against her.

She is accused of making comments that are unsubstanciated and then is defended or attacked with the very same.

They are naive, for many reasons but mostly because they are not backed up with historical context in the cases where references to past rights or wrongs have been done.

And they are abusive, because they personally attack others whom as yourself just wish to express an opinion.

People need to remember that your opinion is not fact and fact is not based on fiction.

Do you really think that will be the case, as Bachmann is saying? Go on record – Yes or No.

I think its nuts because 1)The western part is farthest away from Iran and not the Shiite part, 2)Bachmann wouldn’t be in any position to know this, anyway, and 3)nobody else is saying anything like this.

Fundamentalism = Qutbism. If you don’t know who Sayyid Qutb is, maybe you should stop running around preaching your “elitist” mutlicultural kum-bi-yah solutions to the rise of Islamism. Moreso…if you just read Islamism and don’t understand that its different from Islam, then you shouldn’t be speaking on the subject at all.

This is not news. Iran wants us out of Iraq, not because they want to partition it, but because they want to take control of it. Surely some of you are aware of why Gulf War I happened, and the roots of that war. Surely some of you are aware of the implications the Islamic revolution had on the region.

Its not about Shia and Sunni…stop listening to the news for your thoughts. Its about modernization versus traditionalism, and the ideas espoused by the Muslim Brotherhood in the early 20th century. Understand that the fundies believe the very reason the Umma has been so shamed is because they strayed from god, and from theocratic governments.

Further, for those of you stupid enough to bring mention how many 9/11 hijackers were Saudi…How many London Tube bombers were English? Should London bomb London now? Is that your rationale.

Saudi and Iran are in a war for control of the ME as we speak. SA is flooding oil markets in an attempt to depreciate the price of a barrel of oil…Iran’s only export. Iran is fundamentalism…SA is hated by OBL and the likes…not because they are Sunni…but because the Royal Family is considered too secular.

I am amazed how many Kool-Aid drinkers there are in Minnesota (South Canada more likely)! Are you people this blind to the fact that there is a group running Iran that is power hungry and is waiting for us to leave? When we leave (and the NYTimes, Mrs Clinton, John “I am a Vietnam veteran” Kerry, and Burak Hussein Obama will let the terrorists set their watch by it) Iran will march into where-ever they want and setup shop. Who’s going to stop them, a UN peacekeeping force?

For those in S. Canada that have a little bit of intellect, do you truly believe that Iran and Syria couldn’t and wouldn’t make a run at Iraq, even with a little help from Russia? The chance of this happening is about the same as seeing snow in S. Canada in January. Why deny this? Hate Bush that much?

Do you really think that religion is the problem and that would stop a Sunni that hates the US from colluding with a Shiite that hates the US? Ever heard of Aristotle (especially agnostic utopia) – “for a common danger unites even the bitterest enemies”.

It’s not about religion, it’s about their fear of losing their power. All over history there are examples – the Sanhedrin, the Germans in WWII, the KKK, the Palestinians. Lies and hatred are spread to conger up irrational and false fear, for the powerful few to stay in power (kinda like the politicians do to us here in the US) Why do you think you are sentenced to death if you covert from Islam? Free are they!?!?

Pay attention: the war is there! It needs to end there or it will be here! Or keep believing your S. Canadian thoughts that terrorism is not too bad and they will leave us alone if we leave them alone. But make sure you can be held accountable for that decision, because when some lunatic tries to turn NYC, D.C., St. Louis or even beloved S. Lets not forget that Iran signed the Nuclear non-proliferatin treaty on July 1 1968 ratified on Feb 2 1970 Something the US till this day has never done and refuses to.

Lets not forget that the US government, the German government and several companies such as (Bechtel Power) were willing participats in Iran’s nuclear energy projects. In 1977, Mr. Sydney Sober, a representative of the US State Department, declared that the Shah’s government was going to purchase EIGHT nuclear reactors from the US for generating electricity. Building reactors, and selling the weapons that the Shah was procuring from the US in the 1970s, were, of course, a good way for the US to recover the cost of the oil that she was buying from Iran at the time. So, there has been no secret Iranian nuclear program the world has been aware of it.

Lets not forget the CIA operation TP-AJAX in 1953 where the democratically elected nationalist Mossadeq was forced from office and replaced by Zahedi and the Shah. The blowback from this operation was the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The only reason we are spoiling for a fight is to try to gain control of their resources.

Same communique – the Iranian Revolutionary Guard intends to kidnap James Dobson in hopes of exchanging him for a McDonalds franchise, two Toyota trucks, and four hundred pounds of dental floss, which they use up quickly in interrogations.

She’s also privy to “reports” indicating Osama has a chalet and penthouse in Iran, on the Caspian, where he ice fishes for sturgeon when not inside dabbling around with six hundred Swedish sex slaves he keeps there for himself and visiting weapons merchants.

Bachmann knows all about all of this too. Trust me.

And Marcus is busy now, securing the Homeland.

By fasting.

His waistline is showing the grand effort’s very effective, and Michele is beginning a session of Leech Woman secret agent training to go to Iran, as a secret agent, and expectations are she will return eternally young.

Bats in the belfray. Reds in the woodwork. Terrorist in the kitchen cupboards. Bachmann in heat.

And because of others, this doddering idiot represents me in Congress.

But don’t blame me.

I voted for Wetterling. More frequently than Pastor Mac Hammond voted in my district. Once.

Her facts aren’t accurate, but Iran does have designs on Southern Iraq. Most Southern Provincial Governors, Provincial Chiefs of Police, Militias, and Shiite Iraq Military have some sort of ties to Iran. How do I know? I’ve been working in Iraq for 3 years and have had daily contact with the Provincial Governments. I don’t know about partitioning Iraq, but Iran wants (and has) major influence in the South.

During the buildup to the war a common refrain from the right wing was that somehow the neo-cons knew more than the anti-war realists among us. That because they held high govt. positions they were privy to some mysterious information that indicted the nation of Iraq. My reply, and of course it turned out correct, was that they probably knew less about the situation than we did. It was almost funny seeing Colin Powell’s speech rebutted almost in real time and all the other Bush accusations re Iraq all rebutted almost immediately, not on Fox News or any other television propaganda mills or the Strib or other large papers, of course but everywhere else.

The Old Norwegian says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Nothing really profound or new here but I thought I might as well throw my 1/2 cents (inflation doncha know)worth in.

1. Let’s get past the name calling please. It serves no useful purpose.

2. The issue here is really not what, if any, threat Iran poses to U.S., Middle East or Global security. The issue is Rep. Bachmann’s statements.

She stated as a fact that an agreement has been made to divide Iraq and create a “terrorist safe haven zone.” She does not cite the source of her information. I have not heard any other Representative, Senator, General, Pentagon or White House representative make these claims. That in and of itself concerns me.

If this “agreement” exists and is common knowledge, why didn’t she reference her sources and why aren’t others talking about it? If the agreement exists but knowledge is restricted, so that she cannot name the sources, what is she doing talking about it? Finally, if the agreement is merely conjecture by someone else, what is she doing presenting it as a fact? No matter how you cut it, her comments were ill advised at best.

Do you remember when Sen. Dayton shut down his Washington office based on “information” he had but could not talk about? He was pasted and with good reason.

Frankly, to me Rep. Bachmann’s statements sound a lot like claims the administration made linking Saddam to 9-11 and declaring with absolute certainty that there were WMDs aplenty in Iraq.

As a side note, after 9-11 I seem to recall but may be mistaken (I am after all the OLD Norwegian)pictures from Iran of piles of flowers and condolence gifts. I also recall quite clearly that when we invaded Afghanistan, Iran responded with raids on the terrorist camps in its southern desert. Not a defense of Iran or its leadership by any means. Just a reminder that along with black and white, there is also grey.

3. Batman – I’m a big fan – Love what you’ve done for Gotham but Plame was an undercover agent when she was outed. This has been establisehed by the CIA itself. The reason they are not trying Libby for violating the law is the other parts of the test. The leak must be made knowingly and with specific intent.

Whatever your opinions, please keep in mind that we are all Americans here. No matter what any political pundit tells you. The word Liberal does not equal “commie” and “Conservative” or “Evangelical” do not equal fascist or closed minded.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.

Bush’s war has by default made Iran stronger and bolders. Rumsfeld shock & awe has back fired spectacularly. So what will G W do let me guess; send more troops to Basra because Tony Blair has now done a runner to bolster his legacy.

There will be a vacuum in Basra when the British troops leave and Iranian proxies will jump in with their IED’s and EFP’s. More coffins will flown in commercial airlines back to the US- Its cheaper.

I just want to say one thing: Failure to recognize this salient point will result in The Liberal Media’s getting free reign to eliminate those law-enforcement officers who constitute the vital protective bulwark in the fragile balance between anarchy and tyranny. Let me begin by saying that whenever The Liberal Media is blamed for conspiring to crush any semblance of opposition to its misguided proposed social programs, it blames its encomiasts. Doing so reinforces their passivity and obedience and increases their guilt, shame, terror, and conformity, thereby making them far more willing to help The Liberal Media canonize the worst sorts of abhorrent wastrels there are as nomological emblems of propriety. Rest assured, The Liberal Media’s mind has limited horizons. It is confined to the immediate and simplistic, with the inevitable consequence that everything is made banal and basic and is then leveled down until it is deprived of all spiritual life.
And what about The Liberal Media’s supporters? They, like The Liberal Media, are snivelling, unctuous headcases. The Liberal Media seizes every opportunity to manipulate everything and everybody. I cannot believe this colossal clownishness. Any sane person knows that I have a plan to serve on the side of Truth. I call this plan “Operation punish those who lie or connive at half-truths”. (Granted, I need a shorter, catchier name, but that one will do for now.) My plan’s underlying motif is that the biggest difference between me and The Liberal Media is that The Liberal Media wants to gag the innocent accused from protesting Trotskyism-motivated prosecutions. I, on the other hand, want to initiate meaningful change. Now, it is not my purpose to suggest that some of The Liberal Media’s crotchets raise important questions about future social interactions and their relationship to civil liberties, but rather to make this world a kinder, gentler place. Just because The Liberal Media and its lackeys don’t like being labelled as “unruly tyrants” or “whiney parvenus” doesn’t mean the shoe doesn’t fit. Was The Liberal Media just trying to be cute when it said that trees cause more pollution than automobiles do? I sure hope so, because it has stated that all minorities are poor, stupid ghetto trash. That’s just pure mercantalism. Well, in The Liberal Media’s case, it might be pure ignorance, seeing that compassion and moral principle are not the main motives for The Liberal Media’s actions. And here, I believe, lies a clue to the intellectual vacuum so gapingly apparent in The Liberal Media’s antics.

Many of her nastiest statements about homosexuals can be found on some of her Christian radio appearances. So, I’m not all that surprised she would make a bizzaro statement like this on a podcast.

We have killed hundreds of thousands of them and literally have destroyed their country. Now impassioned “Christians” like Bachmann thirst for more blood in Iran. Amazing how a Minnesota representative can get this information before anyone else. Does she have her own personal spies stationed in Iraq? Just how does she get her information, maybe from the President, whom she kissed on the mouth and held hands with for 30 seconds following this years State of the Union Address.
Bachmann’s positions include:
Favors privatization of Social Security.
Supports a Federal Admendment banning same-sex marriage and is a critic of any type of gay rights or civil unions for gay couples.
Supports President Bush’s policies in Iraq and believes the military must “stay the course” there.
Favors leaving the nuclear attack option on the table in dealing with Iran.
Opposes minimum wage increases.
Opposes abortion and has protested outside clinics.
Has pushed for creationism in schools, and as a school board member got the movie Aladdin banned from an in-school screening because she felt it endorsed witchcraft and paganism.
Bachmann also is a member of a church that is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, whose doctrine teaches that the Roman Catholic papacy is the Anti-Christ identified in Scripture. Does this represent your views, 6th Congressional District of Minnesota? It sure doesn’t represent mine. This is just another example of religious extremism in government raising fear and saying anything to make you believe them, don’t fall for this garbage.

Why is it that the cry baby lefty democrats always turn to name calling and insults when they don’t get their way. Anyone who doesn’t think like them is a nut job. I thought they were supposed to be the party that embrassed diversity in this country. Truth is the Dems. do not control congress. They have enought votes to pass what they want in the house. But not enough votes in the Senate to pass anything with out some Republican help. And they don’t have enought votes in either the House or the Senate to override a Presidential veto. So call all the names you want, unless the Senate caves, nothing will change concerning the war for the next two years. Other than the President’s plan just might work. Since the Dems really can’t stop it, it makes no sense to root against it. If surge works and things get better over there over the next 2 years, Repulicans could very well win the Presidency again and take back the house and Senate. If it does not get better or gets worse, the Dems dominate. So what should we root for, our troops and the people of Iraq, or the Democrats who win if the people of Iraq lose.

I’m glad Michele Bachmann is getting so much attention here. Liberal democrats get elected because too many people don’t really understand the issues. Michele stands for controlling our borders, protecting Americans from Muslim fanatics, and keeping taxes low. She is also against gay marriage which explains all the comments from the Dump Bachmann blog.

I think most Minnesotan’s agree with where Michele stands on the issues, and the more people are educated on the issues, the more they will realize that we made the correct decision in the 6th district by voting for her. The 5th. district with the election of CAIR supporter Keith Hakim Ellison is another story.

Liberals don’t seem to take the threat of Islamic terror seriously. They want us to prematurely pull out of Iraq which would allow Muslim fanatics to control the entire region. They also elect Keith Hakim Ellison to Congress above more honorable candidates in the name of diversity. Did you know that 40% of Muslims in the UK would like to see strict Islamic Sharia law imposed on society there. Is that diverse enough for you liberals?

I’m sorry, but CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) has a long history of supporting Muslim terror groups, and Keith Hakim Ellison is heavily involved with them.

S.D. Steve,

Christians want people of different beliefs to live in peace together, but radical Muslims want to either convert or kill anyone who isn’t Muslim.

It’s humorous to me when liberals try to put radical Muslims who like to saw the heads off of living people and also drill their brains out with power tools, in the same category as Christians like Michele Bachmann.

Michele is trying to help protect us from Muslim extremists while people like you are emboldening the enemy, lowering the morale of our troops, and creating doubt in the minds of Iraqi’s who are trying to create a free society. If liberals succeed in their war on the war on terror, these Iraqi’s will be butchered.

Bob says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 6:35 pm

Dare2sayit,
I actually agree with a little of what you wrote. Radical Muslims to want to convert and kill non believers, and they resort to barbaric means to do it.
The problem is you and conservatives like you seem to forget that “Radical” muslims account for a tiny minority of all Muslims. And if there has been a shift towards radicalism in the Muslim world in the past few years, its a direct result of the historic mismanagement of the Iraq war by the Bush Administration.
You can’t win a War against terror, just like you can’t win a war on Drugs. Because “terror” and “drugs” aren’t armies to be defeated on a bttlefield. They are symptoms of societal or cultural problems. As long as we insist on trying to bomb terrorism out of existence, we are only going to create more terrorists.

JDugan says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 6:37 pm

The statement is mostly true. It is the often stated intention of Iran to reclaim its empire lost in Iraq. This can be found via state department transcripts via freedom of information act. The conjecture of using this part of Iraq as a training ground for terrorists is conjecture based on the fact that Iran is protecting at least 25 wanted terrorists inside Iran. These facts have been available to the press for the last year.

We need to give our brave soldiers a chance at victory here. Even Heraldo Rivera who I always thought was a liberal is optimistic about success with the new strategy.

I understand that liberal pacifists are against war and don’t like to see Americans killed, but more Americans are murdered by Illegal Aliens every day than are killed by terrorists in Iraq.

Does that bother you liberals?

By the way, one of Michele Bachmanns top priorities is to stop the massive flood of illegals into the US.

S.D.Steve says:

February 23rd, 2007 at 7:03 pm

Dare2, this is fun. Point by point of why you’re dumb:

“We need to give our brave soldiers a chance”- We’ve been in Iraq longer the we were fighting WWII. Our brave soldiers are stuck in the middle of a civil war where everyone is fighting everyone. Give them a chance to do what? Do you really think that 140,000 of our soldiers can make a noticeable a country of 25 million with centuries of historical animosities? And before you fire up that tired “Liberals don’t support our troops” line, I’m not saying that our troops aren’t highly capable, highly trained, courageous and heroic. They’ve been put in an impossible situation by idiots who didn’t think about the consequences, and the biggest tribute we can pay to them is to not waste more of their lives trying to manage a conflict that has grown beyond their control.

“More americans are murdered by Illegal Aliens every day then are killed by terrorists in Iraq” – While I’m 100% certain you have no facts to back this up other then what Sean Hannity told you to say, let’s assume for a minute that what you said is true. There are about 140,000 Americans in Iraq. There are 300,000,000 million Americans in this country. So the number of Americans killed in the two areas isn’t a valid comparison. It’s just the type of thing conservative talking heads like to spout off so their mindless army of drones (that would be you) can keep repeating it until it sticks. If you were to look at the PERCENTAGES of total American population killed by illegal immigrants, and total american presence in Iraq killed by the enemy, I’m sure you’d agree that you’re an idiot.

I think as a country we have been headed in a terrible direction since 9/11, and we need people to speak up and challenge what is going on. By almost any important measure, we are worse off then we were 5 years ago. As Josh Marshall put it ” Is America stronger now than it was before? Does al Qaeda have more fertile ground for (recruiting) or less? Are we in a stronger or weaker position vis a vis Iran?” It is not “Hurting America” to question our current leaders and try to change the direction we are headed. How about we deal with the Jewish Americans who sent America to war in the first place instead of assuming that the idiots who caused the problems somehow also know how to fix the problem.

They should be told to “sit down”, “shut up”, and if they so much as squeek of another Israeli AIPAC talking point, arrested as agents of a foreign power, held for treason, and dealt with accordingly.

Enough of these idiots trying to spin America into war for Israel.

Most of us who go to the Middle East know who the problem is – Israel, and the American Jewish political muscle that does not allow for a healthy discussion of the root causes to our present problems – Israel and unilateral Jewish support of a foreign power against the greater interests of the American people.

Never has treason been so institutionalised and accepted since the Weimar Republic.

Which is it?

Probably not. My best guess, she wants to prove that she is walking the halls of power. She wanted to speak to her constituents and the true believers in her home district. She wanted it to be known that she is doing the work that she was elected to do. She just has a funny way of doing it.

If you want it to mean any other group that is so determined they have the only answers (and, of course agrees with Michele’s ideologies) then that’s who I meant. She is a true believer on every topic on which she speaks. Even when she is 100% wrong (read her retraction of what we are debating on this page – there is no “I was mistaken to have said that.” What we got was, “I was misconstrued.” How can you be misconstrued if we are listening to your exact recorded words? DTSI, the propaganda of the terrorists and tyrants scares you so much that you want to stop others from speaking out against the disasterous policies of Bush. You’ve made that abundantly clear here for a long time. That is squelching dissent and playing right into their hands. You’ve never been able to provide anything to back up your rhetoric that anybody is talking about surrender. You’re just repeating the rw propaganda as you always do. What lowers the morale of the troops is short rotations, multiple tours of duty, and not enough equipment or training. The divorce rate and drug abuse among troops and their families is skyrocketing because of those things. That’s a clear indication of how the war is hurting their morale.

Dora says:

Really? Trashing our Commander in Chief. So, we should blindly follow this sorry excuse for a president? Talk of surrender? So, if we remove our troops from IRAQ (where we should have NEVER gone to begin with) then it is deemded surrendering? Should we continue to stay in this place becasue of the incorrect “evidence” that brought us there to begin with? Are you saying that we should just stay put just becauee? Should we stay becasue God told someone that we should? The vast majority of the American public does not want us in IRAQ, or IRAN. Just becasue our Prez screwed up does not mean that we should continue to screw up by staying the course. Lowering morale of our troops? This one always amazes me…. So, again, continue to do something that is wrong and un-supported by the MAJORITY of the people becasue you THINK that the moral of the troops will be lowered. Many of our troops don’t believe in this war either. Recruitment is at an all time low. Recruiters are falsifying documents just to get people to join, lying to them, etc. I served this country and would do so again but that doesn’t mean that my moral would be lowered becasue of what “We the People” think about our president. That is why it is called a Democracy. We don’t have to agree with or blindly follow our elected leaders.

Their past war with Iraq and current issues with the American occupation (can we PLEASE ditch this ‘coalition’ garbage?) has nothing to do with territory; it’s entirely about ideology. As is, of course, the American occupation.

Defeat The Right In Three Minutes
Conceptual Guerilla’s picture

The url for this article is: http://www.conceptualguerilla.com/?q=node/6

Have you got three minutes. Because that’s all you need to learn how to defeat the Republican Right. Just read through this handy guide and you’ll have everything you need to successfully debunk right-wing propaganda.

It’s really that simple. First, you have to beat their ideology, which really isn’t that difficult. At bottom, conservatives believe in a social hierarchy of “haves” and “have nots” that I call “corporate feudalism”. They have taken this corrosive social vision and dressed it up with a “respectable” sounding ideology. That ideology is pure hogwash, and you can prove it.

But you have to do more than defeat the ideology. You have to defeat the “drum beat”. You have to defeat the “propaganda machine”, that brainwashes people with their slogans and catch-phrases. You’ve heard those slogans.”Less government”, “personal responsibility” and lots of flag waving. They are “shorthand” for an entire worldview, and the right has been pounding their slogans out into the public domain for over forty years.

So you need a really good slogan – a “counter-slogan” really, to “deprogram” the brainwashed. You need a “magic bullet” that quickly and efficiently destroys the effectiveness of their “drum beat”. You need your own “drum beat” that sums up the right’s position. Only your “drum beat” exposes the ugly reality of right-wing philosophy – the reality their slogans are meant to hide. Our slogan contains the governing concept that explains the entire right-wing agenda. That’s why it works. You can see it in every policy, and virtually all of Republican rhetoric. And it’s so easy to remember, and captures the essence of the Republican Right so well, we can pin it on them like a “scarlet letter”.

Is there really a catch phrase – a “magic bullet” – that sums up the Republican Right in such a nice easy-to-grasp package. You better believe it, and it’s downright elegant in its simplicity.

You want to know what that “magic bullet” is, don’t you. Read on. You’ve still got two minutes.

Right-Wing Ideology in a Nutshell

When you cut right through it, right-wing ideology is just “dime-store economics” – intended to dress their ideology up and make it look respectable. You don’t really need to know much about economics to understand it. They certainly don’t. It all gets down to two simple words.

“Cheap labor”. That’s their whole philosophy in a nutshell – which gives you a short and pithy “catch phrase” that describes them perfectly. You’ve heard of “big-government liberals”. Well they’re “cheap-labor conservatives”.

“Cheap-labor conservative” is a moniker they will never shake, and never live down. Because it’s exactly what they are. You see, cheap-labor conservatives are defenders of corporate America – whose fortunes depend on labor. The larger the labor supply, the cheaper it is. The more desperately you need a job, the cheaper you’ll work, and the more power those “corporate lords” have over you. If you are a wealthy elite – or a “wannabe” like most dittoheads – your wealth, power and privilege is enhanced by a labor pool, forced to work cheap.

Don’t believe me. Well, let’s apply this principle, and see how many right-wing positions become instantly understandable.

* Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like social spending or our “safety net”. Why? Because when you’re unemployed and desperate, corporations can pay you whatever they feel like – which is inevitably next to nothing. You see, they want you “over a barrel” and in a position to “work cheap or starve”.

* Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like the minimum wage, or other improvements in wages and working conditions. Why? These reforms undo all of their efforts to keep you “over a barrel”.

* Cheap-labor conservatives like “free trade”, NAFTA, GATT, etc. Why? Because there is a huge supply of desperately poor people in the third world, who are “over a barrel”, and will work cheap.

* Cheap-labor conservatives oppose a woman’s right to choose. Why? Unwanted children are an economic burden that put poor women “over a barrel”, forcing them to work cheap.

* Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like unions. Why? Because when labor “sticks together”, wages go up. That’s why workers unionize. Seems workers don’t like being “over a barrel”.

* Cheap-labor conservatives constantly bray about “morality”, “virtue”, “respect for authority”, “hard work” and other “values”. Why? So they can blame your being “over a barrel” on your own “immorality”, lack of “values” and “poor choices”.

* Cheap-labor conservatives encourage racism, misogyny, homophobia and other forms of bigotry. Why? Bigotry among wage earners distracts them, and keeps them from recognizing their common interests as wage earners.

The Cheap-Labor Conservative “Dirty Secret” : They Don’t Really Like Prosperity

Maybe you don’t believe that cheap-labor conservatives like unemployment, poverty and “cheap labor”. Consider these facts:

Unemployment was 23 percent when FDR took office in 1933. It dropped to 2.5 percent by time the next Republican was in the White House in 1953. It climbed back to 6.5 percent by the end of the Eisenhower administration. It dropped to 3.5 percent by the time LBJ left office. It climbed over 5 percent shortly after Nixon took office, and stayed there for 27 years, until Clinton brought it down to 4.5 percent early in his second term.

That same period – especially from the late forties into the early seventies – was the “golden age” of the United States. We sent men to the moon. We built our Interstate Highway system. We ended segregation in the South and established Medicare. In those days, a single wage earner could support an entire family on his wages. I grew up then, and I will tell you that life was good – at least for the many Americans insulated from the tragedy in Vietnam, as I was.

These facts provide a nice background to evaluate cheap-labor conservative claims like “liberals are destroying America.” In fact, cheap-labor conservatives have howled with outrage and indignation against New Deal liberalism from its inception in the 1930′s all the way to the present. You can go to “Free Republic” or Hannity’s forum right now, and find a cheap-labor conservative comparing New Deal Liberalism to “Stalinism”.

* Cheap-labor conservatives opposed virtually all of the New Deal, including every improvement in wages and working conditions.

* Cheap-labor conservatives have a long and sorry history of opposing virtually every advancement in this country’s development going right back to the American revolution.

* Cheap-labor conservatives have hated Social Security and Medicare since their inception.

* Many cheap-labor conservatives are hostile to public education. They think it should be privatized. But why are we surprised. Cheap-labor conservatives opposed universal public education in its early days. School vouchers are just a backdoor method to “resegregate” the public schools.

* Cheap-labor conservatives hate the progressive income tax like the devil hates holy water.

* Cheap-labor conservatives like budget deficits and a huge national debt for two reasons. A bankrupt government has a harder time doing any “social spending” – which cheap-labor conservatives oppose, and . . .

* Wealthy cheap-labor conservatives like say, George H. W. Bush, buy the bonds and then earn tax free interest on the money they lend the government. [Check out Dubya's financial disclosures. The son of a bitch is a big holder of the T-bills that finance the deficit he is helping to expand.] The deficit created by cheap-labor conservatives while they posture as being “fiscally conservative” – may count as the biggest con job in American history.

* “Free Trade”, globalization, NAFTA and especially GATT are intended to create a world-wide “corporate playground” where national governments serve the interests of corporations – which means “cheap labor”.

The ugly truth is that cheap-labor conservatives just don’t like working people. They don’t like “bottom up” prosperity, and the reason for it is very simple. Lords have a harder time kicking them around. Once you understand this about the cheap-labor conservatives, the real motivation for their policies makes perfect sense. Remember, cheap-labor conservatives believe in social hierarchy and privilege, so the only prosperity they want is limited to them. They want to see absolutely nothing that benefits the guy – or more often the woman – who works for an hourly wage.

So there you have it, in one easy-to-remember phrase. See how easy it is to understand these cheap-labor conservatives. The more ignorant and destitute people there are – desperate for any job they can get – the cheaper the cheap-labor conservatives can get them to work.

Try it. Every time you respond to a cheap-labor conservative in letters to the editor, or an online discussion forum, look for the “cheap labor” angle. Trust me, you’ll find it. I can even show you the “cheap labor” angle in things like the “war on drugs”, and the absurd conservative opposition to alternative energy.

Next, make that moniker – cheap-labor conservatives – your “standard reference” to the other side. One of the last revisions I made to this article was to find every reference to “conservatives”, “Republicans”, “right-wingers”, and “righties”, and replace it with “cheap-labor conservatives”. In fact, if you’re a cheap-labor conservative reading this, you should be getting sick of that phrase right about now. Exxxxcellent.

If enough people will “get with the program”, it won’t be long before you can’t look at an editorial page, listen to the radio, turn on the TV, or log onto your favorite message board without seeing the phrase “cheap labor conservatives” – and have plenty of examples to reinforce the message. By election day of 2004, every politically sentient American should understand exactly what a “cheap labor conservative” is, and what he stands for.

Now if you stop right here, you will have enough ammunition to hold your own with any cheap-labor conservative, in any public debate. You have your catch phrase, and you have some of the facts and history to give that phrase meaning.

American Liberal Philosopher,

What are you talking about. Illegal immigration is what is bring the value of labor down, and while Bush is too liberal on the issue, many others like Republicans Tom Tancredo from Colorado and Michele Bachmann from Minnesota are trying to control our borders. Now that the lib’s have taken over, having the fence on the Mexican border which was already approved and would pay for itself in no time won’t happen. Democrats are blocking it’s construction.

Dora says:

How can they come here for generous welfare benefits as you’ve been telling us and keep the value of labor down at the same time? Are they working or on welfare? Like so much of your rantings DTSI, that just doesn’t make any sense.

I can only be annoyed that I can not vote Michelle Bachman out of office being outside her district. We do need closer vetting and with caucus based elections, there is no chance that this can happen since the caucuses dominate the choice of who is on the ballot. We don’t live in a republican form of a democracy when the very, very few caucus attendees determine the candidates. If I can get 30 people together in any district, I can take over a party and get nominated. If that is not totalitarian, what is? MB is an rube elected by an electorate not interested in elections soon enough to get a well qualified slate to choose from.

As for her comments, take away or prevent her from gaining access to even confidential intelligence. She does not know how to distinguish how, what, when or where to speak on important strategic and tactical information. Taking her serious at all is an embarrassment to anyones character who whould take her seriously.

There sure are a lot of LIBERALS from not only outside her district, but from outside of the United States ganging up on her. This just shows she is doing something right.

Michele is right on protecting us from Islamic radicals, keeping taxes low, Man-on-Man marriage, and the serious problems caused by the massive illegal invasion.

Dora says:

February 25th, 2007 at 10:17 am

And there sure were alot of conservatives from outside of her district defending her. What it shows is that when you get linked to and referred to in more widely trafficked media more people show up.

Yep, Bachmann’s views are as far right on all those things as yours.

You and I both know that liberals can’t stand it when a woman or a minority member dares to be conservative. This is why liberals are all over this topic like stink on sh*t.

Condi Rice is another example. She is a very amazing and intelligent woman, but the left despises her because she a BLACK FEMALE CONSERVATIVE!

Dora says:

Anal,

You are nuts. Why don’t you spew your leftist trash on sites in your own country? Seems like the anti-Bachmann crowd is recruiting leftists and anti-Semites from around the globe.

Jeff,

Again, I would really hate to see how our public schools would change for the worst if they were forced to teach that gay marriage is healthy and equivilant to normal marriage. It’s best for a society when a Man and a Woman are married and raise children. Sometimes this isn’t always possible, but that should be the goal. To teach a boy that it’s OK and normal to marry his buddy in gym class after they get older is insane.

Climber Bob says:

“Minnesota is a liberal stronghold,,and always will be”

That’s why we are the 3rd most overtaxed state in the country and the “Welfare Magnet” of the world. It also explains why a Congressman heavily involved with a terror supporting group can get elected.

Jeff says:

February 25th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

DTSI,

Forced? What nonsense! Your call for exclusion is cruel and intolerant. Your heterosexual superiority is arrogant. Wrapping your homophobic vision in the Anti-Gay rhetoric is TEDIOUS. It’s best for a society when all parents, Gay or straight are allowed to marry and raise children. Gay boys ARE normal and should be able to marry their buddy from gym class just like my brother did his sweetheart, Karen from grade school. Honestly, you sound like a fascist.

dare2sayit.com says:

February 25th, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Jeff,

Yes, schools would be forced to endorse homosexual marriage, and the anti-American ACLU would be right there under threat of lawsuits to make sure they do.

Again, it’s not homophobic for a person to be against gay marriage.

Dora says:

February 25th, 2007 at 6:46 pm

Jeff, you’ve just gotten a birds eye view of what DTSI does all the time. In a nutshell it’s blather, rinse, repeat. There is no ability to have a civil discourse with him b/c of his constant slurs and repetition of his baseless claims. I’ve taken to treating him as he treats others although he goes much farther with his rudeness than I’m willing to. He has been brainwashed by the rw propaganda machine. It feeds his fear and hatred. It would be sad if it wasn’t so dangerous to have Americans like him pushing their twisted sense of democracy and patriotism.

dare2sayit.com says:

By the way, my opinions are formed from personal observations and not from any machine.

Dora says:

February 25th, 2007 at 8:15 pm

Yeah, I’m sure you do hate that line DTSI. I’m sure it gets under your skin. It’s spot on. All one has to do is read your posts for awhile to see that.

Jeff says:

February 25th, 2007 at 8:24 pm

DTSI,

Schools would not be forced to endorse homosexaul marriage anymore than they are foreced to endorse heterosexual marriage.

It’s homophobic to not support gay marriage.

FUMR says:

February 26th, 2007 at 8:38 am

Dora is part of what I call the ‘weak minded’ left. There is no room for original thought or disagreement, if you don’t follow the ‘party’ line you will be verbally attacked until you give up and leave. To the left, it’s ok to make fun of Michele Bachman, call her any name you want, laugh at her looks, and denigrate her beliefs, but if you dare make a negative comment about anyone, like Keith Elison, look out, because here comes Dora, Anil, and the lefty hoard to run you over.

FUMR says:

February 26th, 2007 at 8:43 am

Mark Johnson says “Michele Bachmann is the new republican party’s reincarnate of Florida’s Katherine Harris.”

Apparently true. Some of us have been saying this for months; at least since Nov, though I’m thinking even prior to that. Of course, there are others that think Ms. Bachmann will be the ideal candidate to oppose Senator Klobuchar when she’s up for reelection in 2012. Personally, I find such a prediction to be rather far fetched. I suspect the MN GOP will take a new measure of the political landscape in 2008 and find a better candidate to run in the 6th, rather than risk losing the seat.

FUMR says:

February 26th, 2007 at 11:15 am

Jeff, My question is where do we draw the line? If “marriage” is to be more than just M&F, but also F&F, and M&M; then why not MFF or FMM? It’s a slippery slope that I would rather stay off. Do you condone polygamy?

FUMR says:

February 26th, 2007 at 11:20 am

dave – most the democrats in the house and senate have been aiding and abetting the enemy with their cut’n run attitude. They have done far more to help the terrorists in Iraq kill our soldiers than we will ever know.

Dora says:

February 26th, 2007 at 11:41 am

Here’s what is aiding and abetting the enemy:

From the NYT: “American officials said there was mounting evidence that Osama bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, had been steadily building an operations hub in the mountainous Pakistani tribal area of North Waziristan.”

From the WAPO: “The Army’s highest-ranking officer said Friday that he was unsure whether the U.S. military would capture or kill Osama bin Laden, adding, “I don’t know that it’s all that important, frankly.”

Making the same mistake about OBL that Bush made in 2001. While we’re bogged down in Iraq, OBL is resurgent in Afghanistan. And the top Army official doesn’t think he’s all that important which is exactly the same thing Bush said a couple of years ago. But you want to stick with the rw slogans about Democrats. And you accuse others of being “weak-minded”? Puh-leeze!

bsimon says:

Speaking of Pakistan, I see that Cheney, during his secret meeting with President Musharraff, is using the Dem threats to cut funding as leverage to get Musharraff to follow through on his promises to restrict al Qaida action in Northern Pakistan. As it turns out, a little dissent can be helpful, when it comes to negotiating with our allies – not that you’d get Cheney or his boss to admit it.

FUMR says:

There is no denying that. You fail to understand that the extremists/terrorists in Iraq want to kill you, me, or anyone else that won’t convert. Stop listening the msm and do some of your own research. Talk to some troops that are there now or have recently come home. They will tell you what’s really happening in Iraq.

The Taliban is deeply entranched in Pakistan. Chenney is whistling in the wind. This moron also said that Iraqi insurgency was in the last throes.

The US admin guest forgets the Taliban were the ex-Mujahideen – the very Freedom fighters including Bin Laden which they so proudly supported during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan have turned against the US. Mujahideen were left with nothing after the Soviets left. The US deserted them

No wonder they now Despise the US.

It seems that US have fallen in the same trap as the Russians in Afghanistan. No foreign power has conquered Afghanistan. The US forces will cut & run with their tails between their legs.

The Taliban are battle hardened and their expertise comes from the CIA who trained them how to wage a guerilla warfare.

“The US forces will cut & run with their tails between their legs.”

This has nothing do with the Dems

It is hard reality on the ground which is mean, dusty, high temperatures in summer and very cold in the winter. The Taliban are very agile like mountain goats. They carry only Kalasnikovs & RPGs and can survive on a minimalist diet & hide caves. Their expertise will wear down US Forces. That is 100% guaranteed.

Look at history

In the First Afghan War of 1839-42, the British did manage to put a compliant ruler on the Afghan throne as a buffer against Russian influence like Mr Karzai, but it then all went disastrously wrong.

It ended when a British column of soldiers and camp followers some 16,000 strong was massacred as they tried to withdraw. One of the few survivors (some claim he was the only one) was a doctor, William Brydon.

The Second Afghan War (1878-80) was not much more successful. A British invasion did manage to put another helpful ruler in power but he abdicated following a rebellion and the British were forced out.

But there is one lesson from all foreign interventions in Afghanistan. It might look easy but it isn’t infact its impossible.

During the Soviet-Afghan war of the 1980s saw the enhancement of the covert action capabilities of the ISI by the CIA. A number of officers from the ISI’s Covert Action Division received training in the US and many covert action experts of the CIA were attached to the ISI to guide it in its operations against the Soviet troops by using the Afghan Mujahideen, Islamic fundamentalists of Pakistan and Arab volunteers. Why because the American deserted them once the Soviets left and had nothing to do.

There no effort made the Reagan Admin to spend any money in Afghanistan. Not one school was built. Out this mess the Taliban were emerged. Reagan only wanted to win the Cold War but left a mess from which BIN Laden emerged to terrorize the American on 9/11

February 27th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Only those who agree aren’t boring to FUMR. Once again he falls back into a personal attack rather than refuting the argument. Oh well, what do you expect from the weak-minded right?

Jeff, don’t you know that if gay people can marry then we will never be able to draw the line at polygamy, bestiality, or anything/anybody that someone wants to marry? You know that if gay people are allowed to marry then any behavior at all is automatically acceptable. Anything goes.

If a person wants to marry that fence post they’re so fond of, well, we’ll have to allow it. If parents want to marry their children, well, you don’t want to be unfair. After all, as parents we’ve heard our children say that when they grow up they want to marry us so we’ll have to allow it because we don’t want to be bigots. Love your pet? Well hey, it’s okay to marry it.

That’s why we need the Republican Party to stand up for us. They are the only ones who are moral enough to tell us how to live. I mean just look at how well they live up to the moral standards they talk about. None of the Republican leaders commit adultery, has sex outside of marriage, is jailed for committing a crime, is gay. Oops. Well, then we’ll have to look to the religious leaders who cleave to the Republican Party…. well maybe not.

Well anyway, we can’t have gay marriage because, ummm, gay people make all these moral Republicans do all those bad things. Yeah, that’s it!

The Kenyan government is very corrupt and the politicians lined their pockets with money given by USA as aid and other countries incl. UK. USA has given it probably millions dollars in aid.

Anal,

Not only are you anti-American and anti-Semitic, but obviously you have never been to South Dakota. Have you ever heard of the Black Hills or the Badlands? They are some of the most beatiful places on earth. I also pheasant hunt regularly there and the prairies are also very beautiful.

Anal, I know you aren’t an American, but “Hate America First” views like yours are what gets pacifist liberal democrats elected here.

I have heard of the Black Hills and Badlands. But you don’t have nihilistic Islamic terrorists there raping women and carrying out suicide bombings.

Well that’s what happening in Kashmir, Iraq and Afghanistan. I am merely pointing put that the American foreign policy adventures leaves behind a mess for others to clean up. What’s going to happen in Iraq?

Post Soviet Afghanistan was good example. It was simplistic. Lets fight the commies and mission accomplished. No post war strategy or planning. That’s exactly was happened in Iraq G W stood aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln – mission accomplished. The Taliban is resurgent in Afghanistan even US sprayed them with daisy cutters and the powerful cave busting bombs.

The US gets sucked into wars and sometimes the soldiers have NOT even heard of places they going to fight 1000′s miles away in alien cultures. For the same reason nobody will come into US to fight a ground war. They will loose.

Bush is peddling a lie. He says lets fight the terrorist over there so that they don’t come to fight in Badlands – Its an unfortunate name. Very unlikely they will get there.

Bush sold you some baloney on Iraq. Now its a quagmire. How is he going extricate himself of this?

The Dems will get will get deeper into quagmire Just like Lyndon Johnson. Whether its Dems or the Republican war has never been their strong point. Its initial bravado with aerial bombing but on a ground war the US forces perform poorly. So its cut & run what else can they do – fight indefinitely. Its a no brainer

FUMR- Why can’t you defend your discrimination of Gay and Lesbian citizens on the merits of same-gender marriage? Your so desperate. You’re not able to do it without the aid and distraction of dogs, incest and polygamy.

Extreme and obsessive intolerance. What do they call that? Dominionist. You, Bachmann, Dobson, Robertson, and Falwell have the upper hand at the moment. This Country and many others are/have evolved. It will be a non-issue in the near future. Folks who believe in democracy for ALL will continue to pursue political objectives through peaceful and democratic means. We will stand up to you day and night as you cling to your fascist ideology that harms others.

You are falling into the same trap

Criticize a Jew and he screams anti-semitism

Criticize America and screams of anti-Americam are herad

Criticize a Muslim and he screams Islamophobia

No wonder they want kill each other

The Gays have been criticized and judged from day one. Trust me, they are used to it. To minimize blatant and ugly discrimination as criticism is disingenuous. Another shallow response from the Domininionist playbook.

To Jeff:

I am in favor of all rights for all citizens. Gay, straight, whatever. I remember telling my cousin that I didn’t care if he was gay, purple or…

We as a country need to pay no attention to labels.

Get over it, dtsi. The rest of MN – and the rest of the country – do not give a s**t about your weird social agenda. We care about real people.

And they are just fine. OK. A great part of our country. Gay marriage, YEAH! I am a married, white 45-year old female. No injury to me from loving couples of whatever sex…

Health Care Benefits for Gay and Lesbian Couples:

Of Course, FOR.

We, as a country, need to support stable relationships.

Why would ANYONE support relationships being hassled for no reason? Do the Republics really want to support Gays or Lesbians in UNCOMMITTED relationships? Or, for that matter, heterosexuals in UNCOMMITTED relationships?

We should all support committed, stable and loving partnerships.

Neat…

Just about every country dominated by Muslims is a crap hole, and don’t blame that on America. Why do they all want to move here anyway?

Why do they all want to move here anyway?

Answer

Because G W Bush said bring em on lets fight Terrorist over there so that they can’t come here. So the question is how can he fight. Not for ever. So if there is cut & run Nam style, they follow them back home.
